Just bought a new '04, 300 miles to date. Has a steady tick, tick sound in neutral that goes away when I push in the clutch. This noise comes and goes. Dealer claims all late model M6 C5's have same. Thought I'd check with you guys.
Many thanks! :seeya
PS, just moved up to C5 from a C4... ...these are sweet machines! :yesnod:
I've got an '03 with 4300 miles that has odd sounds now and again coming from the drivetrain rattle. These cars are know for a little rattle and noise through the MN6.
Just keep your year on it and see if it changes. I think in the field they call it a "charateristic". hahaha

I have 850 miles on my C5 6spd and have the same noise. I also took it to the dealer two times and they said the same thing,"It's normal for these cars" well then why don't the all make the noise? I am on the hunt for the rattle also when taking off in 1st. Anyone have that rattle that sounds like a heat shiel? :boxing :mad
My C5 doenst have that sound.... But I had a 95 vette 6spd and it made a very similar sound when the clutch was out... took it to the dealer and the dealer said they all do that...BS!!! i found out it was a through out bearing.... If i were you i would have someone take a look at it besides a dealer...
Both of mine do that. I don't notice it quite as much since I installed the Stingers. :D

:iagree: I have 18500 miles on my 03. I also have TPIS long tube headers, Random Tech Cats and x- pipe with GHL exhuase. So if there is a tick, I dont hear it. :D We also took out the 03 shifter and put in a well used 99 shifter with polyurathan bushings, greased the heck out of it and cut the stick shift down 1 1/2 inches so it is shorter, shifts quicker and much smoother.
Re: Question for '03/'04 M6 drivers... (C5 Hardtop)
I have 6100 miles - I have had the "clutch out" tick since the car had 3 miles on it - DO not worry about it - Also the noise you hear when ifrst taking off at a lower rpm is referred to as the "can of marbles" sound around here - Also very normal. -
I had a tick noise that came from a lifter. The clutch had nothing to do with it though :( The good news is that the noise went away and its now at 2k miels :D
