I recently purchased 98 A4 Coupe with 58K miles. After a couple hundred mile cruise with the local club I picked up a Check Engine light. The code is 1416. I know it is an EGR sensor error. I haven't gotten the shop manuals yet and not sure what needs to be replaced. Anyone had this code and know the fix?

It means that air isn't making it to the exhaust manifold on the right side (passenger side) (air injection bank). Since the left side is working (air pump is operating), or you would also get P1415, I would guess that it is the check valve , or carbon build up where the tube goes into the exhaust manifold.
I haven't had to do this repair so maybe somebody else can give more hands on advice. If I remember correctly the check valve is a prime suspect as it is subject to corrosion.

You have to remove the intake manifold, once it's out of the way you'll see the airtube and the check valve.
