I need urgent help.
Hi I'm new to this forum and I just recently purchased a C5 and i've found alot of useful information on this forum. Yesterday when we were removing the radio and finding the wires to connect a factory cd changer, we took of the cover thats on the passanger's side and there were some wires that were stripped and when they were removed they touched a metal part and sparked. Now the radio doesn't turn on or the windows dont roll down and when i turn the car on it dies after a few seconds. We have checked all the fuses and all of them are good. If someone knows or have experienced this problem before please help.

well ive had my car die after doing work on it. But only if i rolled the car. If it does that just reset the alarm. check the fuses for the window too.

Did you check the fuses in the passenger foot well also, or just the ones under the hood?

Yes, I did check all the fuses, the ones on the hood and the ones on the passenger side on the bottom. Checked one by one and all of them are good. I was thinking it could be the battery also due to the interior light being on for a while when we were working on the car. I will check the battery when i get home tonight.

Humm. I've had fuses that "looked" good, but under load were NOT. Replace any having to do with your problems, get a charged battery... and hope you didn't "blow" something else.

I feel your pain!! Electrical problems are a royal pain in the *****!! :cuss
I recommend that you charge your battery to get that part of the problem out of the loop. Then, check Drivers Information Console (DIC) for any stored problem codes! I know for a fact that the Body Control Module (BCM) controls the signals that go to the computers (left and right door control modules) that control the windows.
The codes that you find will give you a good Idea as to what is going on. When my BCM was bad, (yes I had the window problem and they were down when it failed :mad ). I found out that if I reset the codes for the BCM it problem went away!
Check the codes, write all of them down, clear them and see if any reappear.
Once you do all of that get back to us and let us know how you made out!

Yesterday I checked the battery and it was ok, also when I open the door I don't see the security message come up anymore. Most of the fuses were replaced and I get three messages (Reduced engine power/low fuel/check tire pressure/service engine). The car starts with no problem but it still dies after one or two seconds, windows can't roll down and radio doesn't come on. :mad :mad :mad :mad

I disconnected the battery for about two hours yesterday. Could it be possible to have anything to do with the factory alarm? how do i reset the alarm system?

When you disconnected the battery yesterday, that should have reset everything. I would check to see which codes it has thrown. If you don't know how to do that, let us know and I will post it.

turn the key to [accessory]
press reset on the DIC panel till all messages are cleared
holding options button, press fuel 5 times.
This should bring a message up saying something like 'manual mode'
use the top 4 buttons to navigate through the menus.

C5 Diagnostic Codes
The IPC display, the 20-character, vacuum florescent screen above the steering column that says “Corvette by Chevrolet” every time you turn on the key is a powerful device.
The “diagnostic display” mode is entered with the following Procedure:
1) Turn on the ignition but don’t start the engine.
2) Press the “reset” button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold “options” and
4) While holding “options”, press “fuel” four times within a 10-Second period.
Initially, the on-board diagnostics go into the “automatic” mode, which shows each module’s DTCs in a pre-set sequence: (Page No. are for the GM Service Manual)

For each module, all DTCs will be displayed. If none are present in a module, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display.
There are two kinds of DTCs, "Current" and "History," designated with a letter suffix, "C" or "H". A current code indicates that the malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a problem existed in that module sometime in the last 40 or 50 ignition cycles. When not accompanied by a current code of the same number, it is possible it's evidence of a previous problem. Now solved, that was not removed by clearing codes. More likely is that a history code indicates an intermittent malfunction.
"Intermittent" are the most challenging DTCs. An intermittent may have happened only once, may have happened more than once but is inconsistent in its appearance or may be happening on a regular basis but not at the time the IPC is displaying codes. History codes can also be caused by a current malfunction in a system that is not Operating at the time DTCs are displayed. An example is the rear window defogger, which doesn't operate until the BCM detects engine rpm. For history codes set by a system that does not operate with the key on and engine off, a special diagnostic tool called a "scan tester is necessary to properly diagnose the malfunction.
Once the IPC has displayed all 11 modules, the system goes into the manual mode, which allows selection of each module, using combinations of DIC buttons. The manual mode can also be entered at any time during the automatic sequence by pressing any button except "E/M". Once the IPC displays "manual diagnostics", you may select a particular module by pressing the options button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back.
Once a system is selected and a DTC is displayed, if more than one are present; press "gages" To move forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press "reset". Clearing a code does not repair a problem. You are simply erasing the evidence of it in the module's memory.

The IPC display, the 20-character, vacuum florescent screen above the steering column that says "Corvette by Chevrolet" every time you turn on the key is a powerful device.
DIY Service Techs are going to be most interested in the LPG’s ability to show diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) for all the modules that transmit them.
The "diagnostic display" mode is entered with the following Procedure: Page 8-500
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the "reset" button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold "options" and
4) While holding "options", press "fuel" four times within a 10-Second period.
Initially, the on-board diagnostics go into the "automatic" mode, which shows each module's DTCs in a

For each module, all DTCs will be displayed. If none are present in a module, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display.
There are two kinds of DTCs, "Current" and "History," designated with a letter suffix, "C" or "H". A current code indicates that the malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a problem existed in that module sometime in the last 40 or 50 ignition cycles. When not accompanied by a current code of the same number, it is possible it's evidence of a previous problem. Now solved, that was not removed by clearing codes. More likely is that a history code indicates an intermittent malfunction.
"Intermittent" are the most challenging DTCs. An intermittent may have happened only once, may have happened more than once but is inconsistent in its appearance or may be happening on a regular basis but not at the time the IPC is displaying codes. History codes can also be caused by a current malfunction in a system that is not Operating at the time DTCs are displayed. An example is the rear window defogger, which doesn't operate until the BCM detects engine rpm. For history codes set by a system that does not operate with the key on and engine off, a special diagnostic tool called a "scan tester is necessary to properly diagnose the malfunction.
Once the IPC has displayed all 11 modules, the system goes into the manual mode, which allows selection of each module, using combinations of DIC buttons. The manual mode can also be entered at any time during the automatic sequence by pressing any button except "E/M". Once the IPC displays "manual diagnostics", you may select a particular module by pressing the options button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Once a system is selected and a DTC is displayed, if more than one are present; press "gages" To move forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press "reset". Clearing a code does not repair a problem. You are simply erasing the evidence of it in the module's memory.

The IPC display, the 20-character, vacuum florescent screen above the steering column that says "Corvette by Chevrolet" every time you turn on the key is a powerful device.
DIY Service Techs are going to be most interested in the LPG’s ability to show diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) for all the modules that transmit them.
The "diagnostic display" mode is entered with the following Procedure: Page 8-500
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the "reset" button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold "options" and
4) While holding "options", press "fuel" four times within a 10-Second period.

For each module, all DTCs will be displayed. If none are present in a module, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display.
There are two kinds of DTCs, "Current" and "History," designated with a letter suffix, "C" or "H". A current code indicates that the malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a problem existed in that module sometime in the last 40 or 50 ignition cycles. When not accompanied by a current code of the same number, it is possible it's evidence of a previous problem. Now solved, that was not removed by clearing codes. More likely is that a history code indicates an intermittent malfunction.
"Intermittent" are the most challenging DTCs. An intermittent may have happened only once, may have happened more than once but is inconsistent in its appearance or may be happening on a regular basis but not at the time the IPC is displaying codes. History codes can also be caused by a current malfunction in a system that is not Operating at the time DTCs are displayed. An example is the rear window defogger, which doesn't operate until the BCM detects engine rpm. For history codes set by a system that does not operate with the key on and engine off, a special diagnostic tool called a "scan tester is necessary to properly diagnose the malfunction.
Once the IPC has displayed all 11 modules, the system goes into the manual mode, which allows selection of each module, using combinations of DIC buttons. The manual mode can also be entered at any time during the automatic sequence by pressing any button except "E/M". Once the IPC displays "manual diagnostics", you may select a particular module by pressing the options button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Once a system is selected and a DTC is displayed, if more than one are present; press "gages" To move forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press "reset". Clearing a code does not repair a problem. You are simply erasing the evidence of it in the module's memory.
