Intermittent turn signal
This was a hint from c4c5specialist: "It is most likely your emergency flasher switch."
Try this the next time it happens: push the emergency flasher switch in, then out.
Turn signals should work again. Let us know, for the "database" that this came out of.
You can replace the emergency flasher switch, but it's a couple of hundred dollars, according to the dealer.

Someone has the answer here. We have had several threads on this and there is nothing definitive yet. Given that the whole dash has to come out to RR the hazard switch I would like to know before we start just swapping parts and hoping. We need input from someone who has nailed diagnosing these things and then we can make it a Tech Tip so this issue goes away. Thanks all.

My input came as a result of a conversation with c4c5specialist, who has made a reputation and living nailing and diagnosing these things.
The specific symptons listed by IrishFan were:
1. Intermittent (20%)
2. Both signals
3. Return to normal operation without intervention
Both builtfspd2 and I pointed to the emergency flasher switch. I have verified this, so has builtfspd2. So has c4c5specialist.
For me, that's pretty "definitive," especially since I've now used that solution about five or six times in the last five or six months, and it works every single time. Instantly.
You're input on the cost of replacing the switch confirmed the quote from the dealership. Pushing the flasher switch in and out the next time this occurs is a free diagnosis and fix for IrishFan. It could also be one for you, although you're symptons are somewhat different, e.g., one signal only, and all the time. Let us know when you've tried it.
Cheers.

I removed the kick plates below the steering column so I could reach my hand up to the hazard switch. I also had my radio out because I was replacing the A/C display.
I then removed the cover on the hazard switch, the one with the orange triangle by prying it off carefully. The hazard switch has two tabs that hold it in place. I first tried to lift both at the same time but there is very little room. So I put a flat blade screwdriver on the front of the old unit and hit the back with the palm of my hand. It popped out the first hit and I snaked the unit and wires down. Took less than an hour total time and everthing works fine.
In about 80% of the C5s, it's the emergency (hazard) switch.
Not that the above posts are a statistical sample, but that's the case. :smash:
Sorry to disagree.

I'll give the hazard switch a try next time this happens and will report back on my findings.
Sorny
I drove around the city for 60 miles this weekend and not a single event; the turn signal worked every single time. Grrrrr...
I'll give it another try next weekend...
