if mti can make 520rwhp with a 427 using a 236 236 duration cam why would you need a 250 duration cam is a 346.isnt there a point when the overlap starts to kill compression?it is possible to over cam a motor.unless you have 12 to 1 comp. and a 2800 lb car with a 4000 stall there is no need for a 250 dur cam in a 346.
ps.after countless hours of calculating(weight, gear ratio, head flow etc.etc.) i have a 238/246 cam in my 414 with 11.7 to 1 comp a 225 hp direct port fogger and i think its big enough. just my 2 cents take it for what its worth. :banghead:
I don't think we've seen too big so far. With the top dog huge cams, I have seen 520rwhp on a stock bottom end 346. 520rwhp out of a 427 is nothing.
Granted, that 346 was a sheetmetal intake'd solid roller, but that's not the point. Bigger and bigger cams are making more and more power still. It's been that way since the beginning. Hell, just 2-3 years ago, 400rwhp with an all-out setup was a serious accomplishment. Nowadays you can pass that with just a cam, and 450rwhp is just getting started with the bigger H/C combos.
Making 520 to the wheels w/A4 with a baby cam and big converter are great #'s
the question when is tooooo much cam???????????
Depends on what you are doing with the ride Correct????
We could have made lot's more h/p n/a if this was our intentions
But "Dope" again this is just a fun car!!!!!
so hp/tq is relative to what you are trying to accomplish!!!
By the way my extra 300# in this car is audio/video epuipt
