When I started my 98 this morning the engine was running extreamly rough so I shut if off after about 10 seconds and tried a restart with the same problem. I shun down the engine again and poped the hood and there was smoke comming from the AC compressor area. By the time I got over there with a flashlight, I could not see the exact source but the pulley/clutch was extreamly hot. The belt was intact and not hot. The smoke smelled like burned wires/electric.
I pulled the fuse and turned off the Ac and the engine ran just fine. So now I know what system in having trouble, what is next? I do not have a shop manual, please help.
I'm not sure if you can replace just the clutch on 'Vettes as you can with other cars. If you can, it will save you a ton of money over replacing the whole compressor/clutch assembly and recharging.
I'm sure the archives will have something about this subject.
I checked the archives and there was a little bit of info. It sounds like I need to remove the wter pump first then evacuate the system and remove the compressor, the dryer, and add a filter??
Can anyone send me a copy of the service removal proceedures for the work?
