My EMT Runcraps need to be replaced soon, and the tireshop tells me that the Kumho's are much better than the Nitto's. From what I've seen on the board the Nitto's have got a lot of praise, but I have not heard much about the Kumho's.
I have the Kumho MXs (non-runflat) and love them. MUCH better than the GY EMTs. Smoother, more capable and MUCH better feel. I can play with the tail end now without fear of it just stepping out hard. They are fairly quiet, absorb bumps better to boot. I have not tried the Nittos so I cannot comment on those but the Kumhos are great in my book.
Yeah, the tireguys mentioned something about the Nittos being in a 30 or 35 series (lower profile), and that it would be hard to match the fronts to the rears.

I think I'll give the Kumho's a shot!
Thanks!
I think they are the best bang for the buck of any tire out there. I'm on my second pair. (Lot's of roadcourse time)
Yes, the latest and greatest tire is the Goodyear GS D3 - better than the Korean Kuhmo and much less expensive than runflats.
Love to hear about your personal experience with this tire, or any tire other than a runflat. Since the last time we posted on this Tirerack has done more tests. The Goodyear did no better than the S03, in fact in the overall rating the S03 was slightly better than the Goodyear. I have owned the S03 and I have owned the Kumho MX. In my experience which includes a ton of track time and thousands of miles on the road the Kumho is, very much, the equal of the S03. The Goodyear tested no better than the S03. Save your money and go with the Kumhos. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...nextGen_c.html
I would love to see Goodyear come out with a reasonably priced high performance tire. But after the way they have priced the miserable Run Flat and F1 "Super" tire I don't hold out much hope. The GS-D3 is a nice try but doesn't break any new ground and is still too expensive. It does no better than tires that have been around for 4 years.
Yupp, I priced the Kumho's today. $269 ea for Rears, $179 ea. for fronts. Sounds like a good deal to me! The tires for my truck are 2x the price of the rears each! :D
Both are good tires. I've had good experiences with both. I've used them on my past Vettes & Vette. All over good performance no matter the situation. Tirerack has the 275/40 from $155-217 & the 245/45 from $76-$159. Also, checkout Discount Tire Direct. Prices can be totally different between the 2 on the same tire. I don't think Discount carries the Kumho's in 275/40/18, thou.
...a quote from a Tire Rack technical representative (which was almost identical to advice given to me from two other TR reps:
"Based upon our comparison testing of HP tires, the GS D3s are definitely the better tires when compared to the Khumos."
I have not personally tested all the tires mentioned, but when three magazines and three Tire Rack reps tell me the Goodyears are better than the Kuhmos, I tend to believe them. Now if you want the least expensive tire, regardless of where it was manufactured or if it is tops in its class, then get the Kuhmos. To me, the combination of "Made in America" and very high ratings for both dry and wet conditions is worth the few extra bucks.
I'm keeping my C5 tire money in the US and getting the GS D3s.

First off we both know Consumers' Report never tested the Kumho MX as you insited sometime back. What other Magazine's did a head to head test? Love to see it!
Get back to us when:
A: Tirerack has actually had any of the above tires on a C5 as I have.
B: You have had any personal experience with anything other than a runflat.
C: $854 is only "a few extra bucks" as compared to $600.00?
One other item to consider, Kumho makes a 295, the GS-D3 only has a 285. Yes, it's only 10mm(.4 inch), but IMHO something to consider when you're looking for forward bite.
