Default Stinger Intake System

Does this filter need to be oiled before using? The filter is blue in color.

Comes pre-oiled and is good for 15,000 miles between cleanings.

I just installed mine..here's a few tips brought to you by bloody knuckles and lots of curse words. You can't put the filter on the MAF until after you have the bridge hooked up to the throttle body. There isn't enough room until the bridge is seated and in place. Everything is extremely tight..use some WD-40. Also the MAF side that sticks out needs to be pointed sideways or down...not up. 5-minute install time is a bit optimistic heh. P.S. how do you get the rubber sealer ring from the little air tube to go into the filter hole? I pressed and pressed and lubed and lubed(nasty minded people!) and I couldn't get it in. I ended up taking it off and not bothering with the rubber sealer.

The directions state to leave the rubber grommet in the stock air box, it is not needed.

I had a heck of a time getting the silicon coupler to the throttle body. I ended up stretching it by pushing the entire coupler over the end of the plastic tube, then taking it off and fitting it on the throttle body after it was stretched/loosened a bit.

Now I have to make sure that I have the placement correct so that my hood is not bulging up at the front.

If anyone would like detailed (with plenty of pics) instructions, just let me know. I creatd a Word document that goes into more detail than Jim's quick-instructions. I've been trying to upload the pics so I could post the instructions here, but due to a problem with this forum, it's no-can-do. However, I'll try often and if the upload feature is fixed, I will post instructions and pics.

Email it to me at info@CorvetteC5.com and I'll post it.

All remaining orders should ship this week, except the 97-2000 units. We ran out of filters, but should have a new order the end of next week.

It did take a bit of work to get this on, but believe me, you're far better off with a tight fit and NO air leaks. I've had many years of experience working with pneumatic hose and couplers, so I know the technique very well. There is a product that is perfect for helping out in situations like this. That products is called P-80. It is a temporary lubricant that evaporates after assembly. It acts like silicone but disappears and leaves little or no residue. You can even use the stuff to lubricate taps; it comes in thin and thick formulas. Here's the website:
http://www.ipcol.com/prod-p80.htm

Jim, I sent you the word document.

Everyone else: You will love this system. It fits so well that no hold-downs are necessary - very impressive engineering!

We actually had the coupler made undersize to avoid leaks. it is very easy to install, but you must leave the hose clamps off until the end.

We use Windex on the rubber F-Seal receiver for the plastic end of the MAF, it is pretty slippery and allows insertion of the MAF easily. Otherwise it will not go in.

Jim

Thanks for the info.

Jim
