I lost my syncro gears on 3rd and 4th yesterday. My 01' has 21K miles and I don't really race it. I may have gotten off the line at a deserted stop light every now and then, but I don't believe I have misstreated it. I do, as a practice, pull on the shifter before dropping it into the next gear. Any chance that's what caused my sycros to ball up?
My dad's vette lost 2 sets of synchros in 11K miles. Chevy blamed it on "high performance driving". Dad told them to kiss his butt. Put a short throw shifter in there and be done with it. Had one on there for about 6K miles now and haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood).

Not to be argumentative, but what does replacing the stock shifter have to do with synchros failing??
To be honest, I don't know. But it quit eating synchros. Dad and I attributed it to the aftermarket shift **** we put on the stock shifter. Made it to tall and put to much leverage on the stick causing you to pull to far back on the gears.
Tom, Sorry to hear about your trans problem. Is the car still under warantee? If not, I specialize in C5 transmission rebuilding and if you need help with yours I can save you some $$$. let me know.

What do you mean pull on the shifter? If you mean when it's in 2nd or 4th, you pull the shifter towards you before pushing it into 3rd or 5th, then yes, this could screw up your synchros. :nonod:
If this is not what you mean, what do you mean?
Yes, fortunately it isw still on warrenty. I'm more concerned as to why it happened. Hopefully it was just "one of those things. But I am goint to shift more conservatively as a practice now.
