Default Input from those with Transgo...

I'm getting ready to install on my A4 and was wondering how you like it so far? Any problems? Also, I've heard that line pressure was increased. If so, is this a problem? The literature states that a gear can be held to whatever rpm you want and that you can downshift at any speed....can't I already do this with the shift lever? What's the advantage? Thanks.

You really need both Transgo and LS1-Edit to reprogram shift points and delete torque management. It makes a world of difference since the stock A4 is a very "boring" transmission. Do a search on Transgo. Lot's of good info.

Vince - Vstella - has championed Transgo for a long time. Give him a holler!

:iagree: I had it on my A4 and loved it. It is MUST do mod for the A4 IMO. Crisp, quick, up and downshifts. One of the best mods for a A4 C5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually having this kit installed on Monday. Drove a friend's vette and it was wonderful. You may need to make some adjustment to the torque management programing on 98 and later vehicles. As I understand it, GM sets TM to protect the drive train under severe conditions. Trango says this may require you to increase the TM setting on "some cars" but not all. They say there is no way for you to determine if this is needed in advance. The TG shifts result in higher torque than the stock A4. especially under WOT. Completely turning off TM may not be required.

Daws:
Who is going to do the tuning for you ?? I had MMS do the tuning after Andy installed my supercharger and FLP tranny (Andy didn't have the dyno or LS1edit at the time). I need additional tuning on shift points and TC unlock points.

My tuner is saying that there is not real need for a shift kit. He can tune in through the ECM my shift points. I guess we will see.

Default How 'bout it Vstella?

It's a daily driver, about 75/day. My only wheels. I hate the way it shifts though. I keep it under 90 commuting :D . Love to push it though and just play, always within the limits of the law of course. Should I just Transgo alone or chuck the Transgo and do an LS1 Edit or both? I want the unattainable....comfortable daily driver yet kick-butt mover when I NEED to play (every half hour or so). Does the Transgo really extend tranny life or will I reduce it because I'll be getting on it more? You know the routine...yada, yada, yada....

Edit...hey! I said kick-AZZZ...how'd that get to kick-butt?

Randy. I'm not currently planning on any tuning. I have a tuner but no longer local. I will send you an email. :seeya

fmpros. Transgo says the firmer, quicker shifts actually reduce friction/heat and therefore improve transmission like. Makes sense to me. Suspect you already get on it hard :D

Yeah...well maybe.....kinda now and then.....OK!!! EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. I need crisper, quicker shifts in order to have meaning in life.....I don't think I can go on any longer without chirping the tires on the way to the grocery store....I think I need counseling... :D

ok ill add to this question since i am also thinking about adding a transgo...would it be a smarter move to install say some 3:73 gears or 3:42, shift kit and ls1 edit at the same time or would you feel the improvement from just the transgo and ls1 edit...this is for my daily driver.

Well, that's what I did. I went with the 3.42's, a Yank SY3500 torque
converter, the TransGo, and then got the PCM re-tuned. I've had this
set-up for over a year and a half now with no problems whatsoever.

The shifts at WOT are incredible and downshifting from 3rd to 2nd is a
blast also. There are some who say the TransGo is not needed as custom
programming can achieve the same output. Won't argue that because
I haven't driven similarly modified vehicles, but one with TransGo and
one without, so I don't precisely know what the SOTP feel would be like.

I'm in the same boat as those with questions about Transgo. The kit is inexpensive (about $120) but the install can be a bear (from some threads I've seen).

Also, do I HAVE to get an aftermarket Torque Converter? Those are really big bucks and requires the transmission and most of the rear suspension to be dropped (according to my mechanic). Big labor charges there.

What will a 3.42 rear diff, LS-1 edit, and the stock TC give me?
