Mine was pinging before I got my cam installed...Mike Norris did the install and tuning..pinging went away 
...I since installed a different airbridge and coupler..drove to CI...damn pinging came back...last year we got bad gas on the way up so we took fuel system cleaner this year..still pinging..I am pretty confident that the airbridge made the difference so I will most likely have to get some tweaking done on the programming side.

As I understand it - they are all prone to carbon buildup which is lessened by opening it up now and then. I found that BG44K kills the ping with one use. Do a google search for distributor in your area. $20 a bottle (fuel additive) but it removes most deposits AND cleans the sending unit for the fuel gauge. Try it - it beats taking your car to the dealer!

CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER!! Believe it or not, this simple step has fixed many C5's with a pinging problem. How? When the filter gets dirty, it can act as a fuel flow restrictor when the fuel demand is high, such as during WOT operation, thereby reducing fuel pressure, which when in the PE mode will lean the mixture. I had pinging problems on my '01 for over a year, after reading a similiar post (like this one) I changed it. The filter was so blocked I could hardly blow through it. Then presto - pinging go bye-bye. That was 6 months ago and still no ping.

Not that I disagree with you that the fuel filter should be changed regularly, but I have yet to see one cause pinging, I have seen one so badly clogged that the car would barely idle.

IMHO - yes. All I really "know" is that the BG44K makes mine go away. I last used it about 6,000 miles ago but have dumped a bottle or two of Techron in it since.

Yes, I returned to 93 octane Mobil gasoline over 250 miles ago, and the pinging has gone away.
As explained by the dealer, my Z has no problem because (1) all of the engine control systems are working properly and (2) GM has no service bulletin that recognizes and offers a fix for my problem. This is also the reason given that I had to pay the diagnostic charge.
Apparently the extended warranty only covers repairs, so the diagnostic fee can only be reimbursed if the dealer does a repair (that is recognized by GM) to fix a problem. This is nice circular logic.

They have a range of systems for cleaning and flushing various systems. All I have used id this additive for the fuel. This is top notch stuff! Good Luck -
