Trying to save myself $150.00. Anyone know what kind of resister or transister GM uses in the 1999 Key FOB. It is silver and the only one on the Key FOB PCB board? My freind has identified it as the bad part, but doesno't know what to replace it with?
This all happened when I replaced the battery. Good old GM didn't list a part # or anything on the piece. Thanks
That is not a transistor or a resistor. It is the movement sensor for the Passive entry. It is a metal ball inside (shake it, it should rattle) that sends a signal as you are walking up to the car.
One of my 1999 FOBs went bad because(?) it got some kind of moisture inside.

The components that are inside the FOB are surface mounted and unless you are a 2M Tech, you will not have very much luck working on those type of components.
Your best bet for getting a new FOB is E- Bay! I picked up 3 for $75. They were like NEW! MAKE SURE that you are getting the same model. The model number on the back of the FOB must be the same!!!!! GM has a LOT of fobs that look simular but I do NOT know if they will work!
Now if only I could get my fob to remember memory setting #1 is me!! Everytime I get in it goes right to memory #2, which is my wife's setting and the seat almost smashes me into the steering wheel!
Ahhhh,,, been there done that! Relearn ALL of your fobs! Use your fob to unlock the car, Set ALL of the settings that you like and press and hold #1 memory button! The memory 1 light will fash to let you know that the settings are storred in memory.
Unlock the car with your wife's fob set the seat to the fully back and fully lower seat setting, heat to 90 degrees, mirrors to the fully out and down position, radio to some stupid a$$ talk radio station. Press and hold the #2 memory button.
