After having my motor, trans, diff, both subframes out of car this winter I get this code after driving about 10 miles, C1286. Dosen't affect anything, drives fine. it has something to do with steering angle. Has any one else seen this code. Thanks
You have a Steering Sensor Bias Malfunction. Looks like when you had your steering wheel and shaft disconnected fron the rack the steering wheel may have gotten moved and the sensor is no longer properly aligned.
When this code is set the following things are disabled:
Magnasteer
and the service engine soon light is lit.
There is an alignment procedure in the service manual. Would yopu like me to explain it?
I am getting this same problem with the steering sensor after my tire alignment is this because the steering wheel before the alignment was sort of sideways and now it is centered and that is the cause of the code? If there is an alignment produre please explain i really do hope the sensor does not need to get replaced. Thanks for your help.
IMO, you will need a Tech II so you can fix the problem. If you have a friend that would be the best.. otherwise the dealrship (oops I said a bad word) can fix it for you.
