Default P0153 Code Questions

I installed Supermaxx headers a while back and then started throwing P0153 codes. I know what the code is, and it came every other ignition cycle. I replaced both front oxygen sensors figuring the old one were getting slow. I'm still getting the code, just not a regularly. I am using the harness extenders that came with the headers, and everything is secure.

Any ideas on why I might continue to get the codes? Could it be becasue of the harness extenders? PCM contacts? I do occasionally get a P0133 (driver's side) code as well.

It doesn't cause any drivability problems, just an annoying light. The new sensors should be switching fast enough to pass diagnostics, so I'm at a loss.

Thanks

Since they are basically a copy of the LG headers, you are probably seeing the same issue that some folks have with LGMs which is that the 02 sensor cools off too much, as it is too far back from the exhaust stream. LG's rather ingenious solution was to use the rear 02 sesnors which are higher wattage and won't cool down like the lower wattage front o2 sensors thus not generating the slow switching error. The only catch is that the wire harnesses are different front to back, and you can't splice them. So, LGM adapter harnesses to convert your rear o2s to fronts would be required.

So, you may have to call LGM for a set of adapter plugs... BTW, they come included in the LGM package...

But, alos check to make sure you have no leaks...

Good luck.

I wonder if wrapping the collectors would help keep some heat in. I went all day yesterday without a code, but it's back today.

I would try the headre wrap. It is the easiest and most cost effective solution!!

Let us know how you make out.

I'm heading out for a trip tomorrow morning with it. I'll look into wrapping just the collectors when I get back.

I am experiencing the same exact problem with my LG headers. I think I will also try the heat wrap around the sensors.

Default codes after log tubes

I've also got the LGM LTs and used to throw those codes also. Now its only the p0153. I've been told its contamination and replace the sensors. However when a scan tool is used while the car is running the O2's are functioning perfectly. And since some have changed their O2's and still have the problem I don't feel thats the solution either. The long tubes have the O2's too far back, period. Wrapping just the collector would'nt be enough IMHO most of the primary pipes would have to be wrapped also. I've been told that this can be tuned out of the PCM ? But if wrapping just the collectors works let us Know!
