Default Used Headers..

OK I just got my set of used Bassani headers. What do I use to clean off the area where the gaskets were??? Is there a certain cleaner ? Is it ok to lightly sand it off??? I dont want to ruin anything. I remember him mentioning he used some copper seal with the headers as well. So I dont know what works best. Also, what can be used to clean up the outside of the headers?? theyre coated--I just wanted to "spruce" them up a bit, without hurting the coating.. Thanks for your help.

3M makes an abrasive package just for cleaning gasket surfaces. Removing the old materila and getting it ready for the new, I have seen it it the auto stores and on Horsepower TV, but I can not recall the name right now. Check NAPA. Pep Boys or Auto Zone one of them should be able to find it.

Do you think some steel wool would be ok to use???
I cant believe I would sand too much off and damage a surface?
Of course, I have never done headers before, and dont want to ruin anything.
anyone else????

The 3M product is for just that purpose, removing old gasket material and adhesive. Use what ever you want, I prefer to go with products designed for the job.
