Default Oil Filter

I know this is an old old topic, but I can't find it anywhere in the forums. What is the preferred oil filter for the LS1 (2004)? For some reason I thought there was a Mobil 1 filter but the guy at Advance Auto parts said he didn't know that Mobil 1 sold filters. If they don't, which is the best to use?

Check with L.A.P.D. or Ken Fichtner Chev for the Delco UPF44. This is the premium Delco filter preferred by many members. (You may have to order a case lot of 6 though) As far as I know, Mobil1 still makes a filter for the LS1 but I don't have the part number. Maybe someone else will chime in here with it. HTH

K&N HP1007 is a very good filter and has a handy nut on the bottom making removal a piece of cake.

I use the UPF44 also. And yes, Mobile 1 does make a filter for the C5 but I don't remember the number either.

Check the following link:

Oil Filter Study

I recently pulled off my UPF44 and threw it in the garbage can. Now running a Balwin B31 and my oil pressure is much better.

Baldwin B31 is an excellent filter - same as the AMSoil filter.

When you say that your oil pressure was "much better." what do you mean? Was it higher, lower or more constant (less variation)? And does the oil pressure sensor sense pressure upstream (between pump and filter) or downstream (between filter and bearing journals) of the filter?

I would rather use PF46. The UPF44 has too much of a pressure drop. Never have liked it.

Will the PF46 fit on an '02? I think I read somewhere that the PF46 was for '03 and newer. Am I or not?

I'm actually have a PF46, that I bought one day while at Pep Boys, but have not yet tried to install it.

Default Mobil 1 Filters

Mobil 1 does have a filter. It's number M1-107 and available from Auto Zone and Mid America to name a couple sources. I use them and they have increased the oil pressure 2 to 4 lbs over the stock filter.

I noticed about a 5 psi difference at hot idle. Also, I am now curious when the weather cools off whether the oil filter was playing a role in the startup tick that everyone complains about, especially when the oil is cold. Will get that answer in a couple of months when the temperature starts to drop.
