Default overheating issue.. any idea?

Looking for feedback.. 2000 M6 29k miles... 160 stat and reprogrammed fans. Car has been running like a top and outr of the blue, temp was rising. hit 255 and I cooled off and it did it again. Thought the thermo stuck.. replaced followed procedure for filling again, idle, cap, rev, top off, repeat, etc... still overheat. did the procedure again. drove to test.. hit 180- up to 200, then fell to 179 again.. then boom, slowly rose to higher temp bang 250 again.... fans are working perfectly, if the h20 pump was out I would know it.. Do I have air in the system? Comments would be appreciated. I am sure someone else has had this happen I still have 2.5 years left on warranty, but of somethng simple, well. it is Sunday.

Thanks in advance all..

did I read it right?? you replaced the T-stat and it still does it??

maybe it is sticking intermittently???

is there anything clogging your radiator plastic bag or something keeping air from circulating??

Somewhat obvious I know, but did you check that you don't have something stuck to the front of the radiator?

checked for stuck bags, etc.. nada.. nothing.. very strange... only other thing I can think of is water pump, but I think my belt would have a problem moving.

Thanks all.... any other ideas of what to look at let me know....

Also take a high pressure air hose and blow out the sand and dirt out of the radiator fins.

A couple of other possibilities along with everything else mentioned above, the temp sensor could be giving you false readings and while the guage goes up, it may not actually be hot at all.

The water pump impeller can come loose from the shaft and not be pumping water properly. This is the least likely thing to happen, but it can happen to water pumps.

Default hey check ur heater

when your car is overheating turn on your heater and see if you get heat...if you dont then u have a clogged ac line...which can cause air pockets in the block...air heats up quicker than coolant so if a temp sensor is in a pocket, it will get high readings...if this is ur problem the answer is to clean out your ac lines...then fill up the block from the top radiator hose to eliminate the air pockets in the block...then run engine with coolant cap off..untill all air is released then ur done...
