Default Lost Power Steering, What could be wrong?

A few weeks ago cruising the interstate one night in my 99 C5 when I started to get on the exit ramp I noticed my steering was extremly tight and was hard to turn. I forced it and pulled over. I cut the car off for a few secs and back on and the it was fine after that. I dropped it at the dealer a few days later and they couldnt reproduce it or find a problem.

This weekend while driving it did the same thing again but this time about it happened 3 times in 6 or 7 miles of travel. I cut it off, let the car coast for a sec, crank it and its back fine. The last time it did it was close to my destination and after letting the car sit for about an hr it didnt do it again on the 2 hr hard drive home. I was trying to reproduce it again but couldnt get it to happen.

The only thing I noticed was my car was running about about 220 degrees this weekend when it happend, I dont know what the temp was the last time. I check the fluid and the level is ok. No belt noises that I can hear.

Any ideas?

I don't know what happened. But on mine it already happened twice than the steering fluid was boiling then I've got the same feeling you describe.

You should check to see if you are kicking out any codes. Do you get "service vehicle soon?" There is a sensor at the end of the steering column that controls the variable power steering. If it goes bad your steering will be hard, especially at low speeds.
