I have an 04 C5 with stock suspension. What shock can I install to stiffen up my suspension or do I need to go with Z06 springs? I need to do something to keep my new vert from bottoming out on the rough roads where I live. Some advice needed.

Bilstien Sports or check out Vette Brakes offerings of the same called xtreme. Coilovers could be used also. Vette Brakes makes springs also in any rates you want.

What are coilovers and what function do they perform?
My '00 FRC had the z-51 Suspension package. I changed to Z06 shocks and it firmed it up a lot. Some of that will likely go away when I switch to non runflats in the future. The ride is a lot firmer but I have always liked that as I like to feel whats going on with the suspension. I have heard that the bilstiens are even stiffer based on past postings. You could probably search the archives and get a lot of info. Good luck

For my C5/99 coupé I got with the Z06 schock absorbers+Z06 sway bars kit+Pirelli Pzero Giallo Tyres(not run flat): stiffer car and better drivebility..
ciao
I have the ZO6 sway bar on order. I am now trying to decide on shock, 04 ZO6 or Bilstein Sport. It sounds like these two mods will give me the stiffer ride I am looking for without the expense of upgrading the springs.

First try a set of 04 Z06 shocks, if that does not bring the ride to where you want it, move on to springs and other items. Going radical, like coil overs is foolish until you figure out where you are going and how stiff you want the suspension to be. Slow and easy one step at a time and you will be happier and have more money for other MODs.

Springs?
I originally put T1 bars and the stiffer Bilstiens (there are mild and stiffer-2 models) and really liked the way my car handled-even though I had the "soft springs" in the F45 option.
I ended up changing to ZO6 springs 'cause the weight of the blower lowered my front end excessively. The car handles great but is probably stiffer than most would like.

I got the Doug Rippie Motorsports coil overs--a very good choice--just get the right spring rate and proper shocks. The results make the car feel completely different.
It sounds like Bilstein Sport or the 04 Z06 shock are very close in performance parameters. I will not be lowering car so I don't need to consider that in my choice. I will be installing the Z06 sway bars but it sounds like that will not have any bearing on my choice of shocks. It also sounds like they are equal in stiffness. So do I flip a coin ZO6 heads Bilstein tails?
