How difficult is it to crack an OEM wagon wheel. When I went to get my new tires mounted and balanced. I was told that I have a crack in the right front rim (about 1.5"s) and the left one is slightly bent.
Can this happen from just mounting new tires? Or does it take some me significant pressure to crack one? (pothole, curb etc.)
Please let me know because I don't want to get screwed into getting some new wheels for nothing.
Also,
how much does it cost to get them repaired - if necessary. Or is it just a waste of $$$ and I should get some used ones.
I can get two fronts for $100 a piece in good shape.
Please Let me know
Thanks

I had a set of chrome wagon wheels on my 98, the right rear was cracked. I got so bad it would leak about 15-20 pounds of air a day. Don't know what caused it. Chevy dealer wanted $600 for a new wagon wheel! I bought a set of chrome z06s instead. Wanted a new set anyways.

They can fix a crack for 45 I think I paid but it was on the inside. You have a bend one so just get two decent ones for 100. I can't imagine it happening by mounting a tire. Pot holes.
I HATE the wagon wheel rims but they can be fixed. Most shops can weld up cracks and repair bent rims! If you have to add shipping and the repair together it may be better to get a used set (check the C5 parts for sale section on the forum)
Another option would be to get some "NEW" style rims or trade up to ZO6 rims!
i had wagon wheels on mine, got new ZO6 replica wheels for around $600.00. In all honesty they make the car look twice as expensive! EVERYONE notices my car now everywhere i go...
My first 98 conv developed cracks on the inboard edges of both rear wheels with approx 20k mi 15 months out of warranty,,had GM zone rep inspect, they refused to warranty replacement,,,
My 2nd 98 conv had 2 cracked rims when I acquired,,
Since this appears to be a common problem as well as a safety issue,,
I recently filed an online complaint with National Highway Safety Adm.
If others will do the same perhaps an investigation will be opened resulting in a recall of the wheels
