New VaraRam B2 Baja Filter installed...
I was never happy with the airbox seal with this filter.
The stock foam filter was not that good according to the installer.
After a lenghty conversation with Patrick (the owner) over at VaraRam,
he suggested that I use the new Baja filter with a better fit and seal.
Also, to my surprise, he said that with the set-up that I have ( heads, cam, headers) that the K&N was actually choking my engine, not enough air intake.
With this filter he said, I should notice an improvement in throttle response and an increase in torque, about 10-12 ft. lbs. !!!
I got the filter several days ago and it does have a much better seal to say the least.
I couldn't believe from the looks of the Baja that it would flow better than the K&N filter.
Was I wrong
Throttle response is crisper and torque seat of the pants feel is much stronger
I haven't had a chance to put it on a dyno to see the results.
Just thought you VaraRam B2 owners would like to know.
Oh, and Patrick said in the next 30 days an even better flowing filter will be out.
Thanks
For now, if this helps, it's like an ice cream sandwich with part of the top carved out the same diameter as the flow chambers.
The bottom gasket and top gasket (both foam) of the foam filter itself extend out from the center section.
The top of the filter is about 1" indented from the top with a screen wire mesh for support.
The lower gasket fits perfectly on the lower airbox and I actually had to take the rubber gasket off of the upper connecting airbox, not gasket, so it would fit, otherwise it was too tight!
Hope this helps
Maybe I can get VaraRam to post a pic.
I just went to their site, it has a picture of the new filter.
click where it says more info on the VaraRam and scroll down, that's it!!!
The Baja has a screen in the top section and the Baja is beefier.

Thanks!
Thanks!

I asked that same question and he said the new filter was much better in filtering than the K&N.
The Baja filter is the same filter that Ivan Stewart runs exposed in his desert race trucks!
He said that they design the filter first , then the VaraRam to fit it.
Yes, you need to oil it.
Patrick said WD-40 or PJ-1 would work.
The picture on the VaraRam site is not the new filter but looks like it. The Baja has the heavier top and lower gasket and a mesh screen for support.
Talk to Patrick, he's a cool guy and will take the time to help you.

Don't think I would ever use WD-40 as a filter oil. PJ-1 or K&N filter oil is what I would use. I got the K&N filter cleaning kit for about $10 from Advance Auto Parts. Comes with the cleaner and the filter oil.

Sorry for the mix-up...
