Default FOB problem

I' checked out a guy's vette to buy and I found the FOB was not working. I looked up in the manual how to retrain the fob. No luck.
Any one have a guess? he did put a new battery in it.

you can buy them on ebay for about $40... did you do the procedure with ignition on and holding reset until it asks for FOB #1, then holding both lock and unlock for about 10 sec?

also, did you change the battery?

Keep looking in the owners manuel. I know it is in there because I have had to relearn my a few times and I always have to go to the Manuel. The process is real easy. It is something like go through options until you get to the blank page and than hold down reset. You will than get a choice of tire train of fob. The reset is self explanatory.

There are "TWO" FOB procedures. Both procedures are listed in the owners manual.
One is "SYNC", to sync, all you do is hold the "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" buttons down at the same time. The horn will beep once indicating that the re SYNC procedure was successful. If your FOB just stops working a re SYNC will normaly fix it.
If you change the FOB battery or disconnect the main battery, you will have to do a FOB RELEARN

"RELARN" is more involved but not difficult. You can "RELARN up to 3 FOB's You must "RELARN" all of your FOB's at the same time.

Off the top of my head here is the procedure:
Press the "OPTIONS" button and page through the options until you come to a blank page. Press and hold the reset button. You will find Tire Pressure Monitor and FOB training modes

"This is where it gets foggie!

You need to select FOB training. It will ask you to train FIRST FOB, press and hold the LOCK & UNLOCK buttons until it tells you that it has trained the fob. It will ask you to train the secomd FOB ect ect

Break out the manual and GO FOR IT!

Default FOB Sync

First thing on syncing your FOBs (which is the first choice) is turn ignition to 'on' but do NOT start. Hold down both LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time until the horn honks once. That FOB is synced now you can do the same with the second FOB. If this does not work then you will need to do the FOB training.
I hope this helps....

I replaced a battery in one of my FOBs. After following the relearn procedure from the owner's manual, it worked perfectly ... until I got about 10 feet away from the car. Then it quit. I did the relearn thing several times with the same results. My guess is the FOB broke and I blamed it on the battery. I have read other posts of members having the exact same problem with their FOBs.

Default FOB problem

Yep, I went to the manual. Went through the relearn, unlock hold with lock. No luck. Tested bat at 3V. made sure contacts where clean.
I found some FOB's on ebay but the price has gone up to 50bucks, better than the dealer, they want 170.
Anyway thanks for the tips all.
Gonna keep going back till they get it right.

Man this car is soooo fun to drive

Exact same story for me. I only have one of the fobs at the moment, but I've done everything above - no joy. I guess the brand new fob is fubar. Maybe I'll try to learn my brother's fob to my car, and confirm it is the fob - now there's an idea!!!

If anyone is looking for a key fob go to Ebay look for 1XPJDD or emailXPNitro@aol.com He deals in fobs. I bought a set for my 01Z as back ups in case. It was only $25.00 mailed. #1 gently used and #2 is brand new.

I got a set on E-bay for a good price! just make sure the model# on the back of yours matches the one you buy. DO NOT let anyone try to talk you into purchasing a different model than the one that you have!!! They will NOT work!!!

Good Luck!

I'm going to have to check ebay for these items - but first I'll let the previous owner know that the fob is wrong and see if he wants to buy it instead!!

I took the fob to a GM dealer, and they tested it on their little machine - sure enough - it is emitting a signal - looked up the part No., and it is for an 01 aurora/bonneville/cutlass - not for the 00 corvette. I got the wrong stinking fob!! We'll see what the previous owner thinks about this. Thanks for the help though!

Jeff

Roll the windows down, lock the doors using the lock button on the inside of the door and shut the door. The system will arm it self. Reach in and open the door using the door opening latch on the inside. If the alarm is working properly it should alarm. Try this on the passengers door also. To secure the alarm, you will need to insert the key in the ignition and turn the switch to on.
Shut the doors and lock the door with the key in the door key lock. Try to open the door from the inside again. It should alarm.

Arm the alarm again and reach in and pop the rear hatch using the switch on the dash. Alarm should sound.

Please let us know how you make out.
