Default Qtp Header Dyno Results

Greetings, All

This is my first post, however I`ve followed the forum regularly since I bought my 98 C-5 , A-4 roadster back in 99....
Two thumbs up to the forum and it`s members, it`s the wealth of information/ideas!
I`ll be scanning the dyno charts (3 total) over the weekend and hope to post them along with a complete summery the first part of next week.
In the meantime, I`ve written the max hp/tq results below so you can at least see the numbers. Obviously you`ll have to wait for the dyno charts to see the tq curve, fuel/air, etc.

Dyno run #1. (baseline) 98 a-4 roadster, stock 3:15 rear gear, twin-flo intake w/cold air screens, Borla cat-back, throttle body coolant by-pass and CCW big tire/rim package. Otherwise the car is stock.
309.86 h.p. and 318.89 tq. Yes, I know these are good numbers, a big thanks to the G.M. tech on duty the day my motor was built!

Dyno #2. With above mentioned bolt-on`s plus the addition of QTP tri-y headers, Random Technology 2 3/4in x-pipe/cats.
319.64 hp and 333.03tq = +9.78hp +14.13tq

Dyno #3. I wanted to see if the stock LS-1 intake manifold was holding back the full potential of the headers, so an LS-6 intake manifold was added along with a Vara Ram, and no, I don`t think the Vara Ram added much if anything on the dyno.
333.53 hp and 342.43tq = +23.67 hp +23.54tq
I think dyno #3 represents the typical combo of upgrades for bolt-on C-5`s, thus I`m pretty happy with the results.
I hope to make some canyon "test runs" this weekend, which I`ll include in my summery along with the dyno charts next week.

Cheers, R.P.

Did you do any PCM tuning with the headers? If not, do you think there is any HP or TQ to pickup with tuning? I have read there is a lot of TQ to be picked up under the curve with the Tri-Y design.

I am very interested in this as well. Were the dyno runs on similar days? Can't wait to see the curves. Do you know what the air/fuel ratio was on the dyno?

Also, any comments on the installation or the quality of the headers themselves?

Default Re:QTP tq curve/tuning

Greetings, All

Please excuse the delay (I was out of town on business yesterday, Mon) in my posting the promised dyno charts, also, I`m "old school" when it comes to computers/scanners, etc, so please bear with me..
I did bring the scanner to work with me and with a little assistance I hope to have the dyno charts posted this afternoon or tomarrow at the latest.

In the meantime, regarding additional hp and tq with tuning.... the car was tuned on the dyno for run #3, however, other than slight adj to shift points/firmness and fan temp settings, only a "very minor" adjustment to the air/fuel settings was made. ie: from 12.43 to a 12.65 final setting.
In my opinion, I think the computer would have made about the same adjustment after being driven a few miles.
The tq curve looks comparable to a couple of dyno charts I`ve seen on similarly equipped cars with LG`s, mabye a little less hp on the top end and a tad more tq down low, but very close.

The QTP headers don`t appear to "require" additional tuning, perhaps due to the fact that all 4 oxygen sensors are retained, no sims/editing required and still "no check engine light" or other driveability issues.
You may be able to "squeeze" a little more out of your specific car since every car is different.

As mentioned previously, I`ll try and get the dyno charts posted soon!

Cheers, R.P.

Your final numbers look good, but the delta for the headers was the surprise. Also, I think they were pretty conservative with the afr so you don't have to worry on the street. Can't wait to see your charts.

As for being old school, once you have a zillion posts on the forum, it will be second nature
