Default Heated Seats

I'm getting ready for Fall/Winter in Pennsylvania. Ayone have good directions and/or photos for installing the heated seat kit (purchased from PFYC.com)? Also, for those who have installed these kits, how well have they worked for you?

I installed them in my 98 coupe and 02 ZO6! They work great and the job was (on a sacle of 1-10, 1 being very easy and 10 being forgetaboutit) it ranked a solid 5!
I took pictures but damn if I can find them. I will keep looking! It is not difficult. I can talk you through it step by step if you need to.

My wife's Grand Prix has heated leather seats and they are VERY nice on winter mornings. It is hard to believe a high-end car like the Corvette doesn't have them standard. Maybe a weight issue.

Bill, did you install the one from PFYC.com? Which kit (they appear to have a few available)? Where did you locate the module and switch?

If you can't find directions for the kit, then this will definitely get you started for removing and disassembling the seats: http://www.vetteessentials.com/instr...er_change.html (courtesy of forum vendor, Vette Essentials).

I recall reading once that someone put theirs in without too much disassembly, by sliding the heating assemblies under the leather covers without having to actually remove the covers. If you try that, be aware of the location of the velcro in the seat foam, which is shown in the above directions.

Good luck.

Well here goes! I installed mine last spring. It was not difficult! The control module, wiring harness, and switch all fit and install nicely under the seat! The 98 coupe with the memory passengers seat was the easiest to install! The ZO6 without the memory passengers seat was a bit tougher because I had to find a place to mount the switch for the passengers seat. I mounted it behind the glove box door. That was the most difficult part of the entire process!

I purchased rubber water resistant fuse holders from autozone and wire and connectors from Walmart.
[IMG][/IMG]

Almost all of my connections were soldered and covered with heatshrink. That makes the BEST connection.
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]
The wires were wrapped in electrical tape or plastic wire wrap. I supplied power from the B+ lug on the under hood engine compartment.

I used seperate fuses and fuse holders for each seat.
I fed the wires into the passengers compartment through the large wiring harness that feeds through the fire wall that is located behind the battery. I used a metal coat hanger, bent the end into a tight loop, lightly lubricated it with some soap and slipped it in along side the wires in the harness. Once I got the hanger through the rubber gromet and pushed into the passengers comp, I taped the wires to the hanger and pulled them back into the engine compartment. It was very easy!
[IMG][/IMG]

I used the ground from the auxilary C5 wiring harness plug in the passengers foot well and I decided that that was not a good idea.
I grounded the heaters uning the interior ground G-202 in the pass door.
All of the wires were run under the carpet and are invisible. The immerge from the same area in the carpet as the plug for the power seats.

I need to divide this up the STUPID limit on pictures will NOT let me post it!
Please see the rest in the next post!

The rest of the install is contained in the underside of the of the seat. The heated seat controller can be tie wrapped to the metal seat wires and the wiring harness is easily installed and attached using tie wraps.
[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

I installed my switches (except the ZO6 passengers seat) on the power seat plastic side cover Here are some pics of the install
[IMG][/IMG]
ZO6 switch install in glove box.
[IMG][/IMG]
Glove box removed and dash frame cut to make room for switch.
[IMG][/IMG]
Switch installed in glove box frame. (note plastic wire wrap on wire.)
[IMG][/IMG]
Glove box cover modified to provide clearance for switch. I used a VERY LARGE ball bearing heated up with a torch to make the depression!
[IMG][/IMG]

THE INSTALLATION IS INVISIBLE EXCEPT FOR THE SWITCHES, AND FUSES.

The ONLY complaint that I have about the entire installation is, the seat part of the seat is secured to the foam with VELCRO. The velcro will not allow the heater to slide forward very far so the seat heater (*** portion) is not able to be moved as far forward as it should be. This is not a big deal but just a point that I would like to make!

I was able to install the heater pads in both cars WITHOUT removing the seat covers! I just unclipped the hog rings from the bottom of the seat covers and slipped the heaters in!

Tanner

I set up a group purchase from PFYC for the heated seats! There were a S%$! load of people who got in on the group purchase! They were all very happy!!! We got a REAL good deal on the kits.
At the time that I purchased my heated seats there was only one selection from PFYC! I will try to get on PFYC's web site and see if I can point out the one that I have.

I am VERY happy with my heaters and my install! If any of you get stuck, PLEASE drop me a line and I will try to help you out!

I did mine this summer.

I would find a different power source than the battery otherwise the seats will be on when the car is off if you forget and leave them on.

I wired mine to under the passenger footwell and the seats only work when the car is on.

I also put the switches next to the shifter.

I am really happy with it, or I should say my gf is really happy. Now I can turn the AC down really really cold and she does not grip.

Bill -- nice write-up!

2 quick questions:

(1) where is that ground area you're showing?
(2) how does your solder job come out so cylindrical? Is there some type of technique or part?

Thanks.

The solder job that you see is a inline wire lug. It is suppose to be crimped on but. I just slide the wires in and solder them. It makes a very sturdy and clean connection. If you look closely in one of the pictures, you will see 2 sleaves of heat shrink that are slid down the wire ready to be shrunk into place.

The Ground is in the passengers foot well, at the forward portion of the passengers door sill, If you remove the door sill cover, follow the door sill forward and just below the bottom door hinge there is a small pocket on the inside of the door sill. The ground connector hides in there. You will have to be creative with a 10mm wrench to get to the bolt but it can be done.

Phear this mind

I think the seat package was $100 (I need to look at the receipt) PFYC went out of their way to cut us a great deal!! The GP was VERY successful!!!
