The President of AFR also owns a C5 (which we will soon feature performance results on with 225's and a Magnuson Blower), and we are trying to get all our "ducks in a row" regarding parts and supplies we will need for the install. It will be a very mild combination, but we are hoping it puts down reasonably impressive numbers. Rick is a bit more conservative than I so the cam we have chosen will only have a 220 intake lobe on it, emissions legal "shortie" headers, and a factory Ti exhaust (speaking of that, we are looking to purchase one if anyone's interested in selling theirs)....What I really need help with as I am more the manual transmission type, is recommendations concerning a very "stealthy" street/strip torque convertor. By stealthy, I'm hoping to find one that is barely distinguishable from stock concerning overall driving manners. He wouldn't be happy with a "sloppy" convertor....I was hoping we could find something that might give us a 3-3500 stall speed, and still retain stock driving manners (or close). Is there such a thing out there? I would love to hear back from people actually driving the convertor they might recommend, so we know we are not just speaking about various manufacturer's claims etc.....nothing like hands on experience to really know what a product is capable of.
Certainly would appreciate any input you guys might have...
What rear end ratio will he be going with? 3.42's and a SS3600 would be the perfect combo for him. I'd also give Mike at Yank a call for his opinion. http://www.converter.cc/
Yank. That is what LPE uses on their cars. Those cars drive like a stock C5 car driving through town, to point you can not tell the difference while cruising. I would think that you want a lower stall like 2,600 with the Mag. because of the instant great torque.
So, what your actually looking for is a converter that has a higher stall speed, in order to let the thing build some rpm/boost at launch, but has good "torque multiplication characteristics" so as not to be too sloppy as a daily driver on the street? You might try "Precision Industries". http://www.converter.com

The idea is to let the torque convertor slip until the engine is at a higher RPM where Torque is building. The supercharger motor builds torque at a much lower RPM, so the stall would be lower. Ask the experts, but I suggest as low as 2,400 - 2,600 depending the selected cam.

above is may understanding also...no larger than Yank 3200 or Vig 2800...preferably less.....but if you post this in the Forced Induction section you will find folks who have done exactly what you are asking...
Just FYI you'll never achieve decent traction on street tires nor drag radials with that set up. Add in a decent sized stall and you'll be spinning ET streets. My personal mag set up would be 2.73 rear gears...and a converter with less than 1.8 STR...that mag will make over 400 ft lbs of torque@2000 RPM. Nothing short of slicks can hold that down on 3.15's with a converter of any type.
If you really wanted too, put finger button translock on the shifter, so you drop the fluid in at 3,200 or whatever r.p.m. off the line for slicks. Have a second safety switch to turn it off when not in use.
Extra speed when you want it off the line, plus nice drivability all the time. There's a thought.
