Header people check in
I had a set of TPIS headers on my 01, I went through 3 starters in 3 years. GM said it was due to excessive heat from the header causing premature failure of the starter. I now have a new 01 vette and reluctant of putting headers on again. Has anyone else had this issue?

Roughly 10,000 miles, no problems. Starter has 150,000 on it. FLP long tubes.

Do they make a blanket or anything for it? I am about to install headers myself.

from what I seen you can wrap your headers with "header wrap" and that will keep the heat away. Its easier to do with the headers off the car though.

One of the benefits of the SS LGM headers is that SS holds heat very well. Yes the headers will be hot near the engine and especially near the turn, but once you get down near the starter the heat is substantially less. I guess some heat wrap would never hurt, though.

Go to the web page linked below. About 1/3 of the way down the page is a starter heat shiled. Thermatec makes good stuff.

FWIW, I've had no issues with my unprotected starter and my FLP's.

I have Stainless Works and have not had a problem for quite some time now. I think they are trying real hard with this story.

I had the TPIS setup for over 15,000 miles and now have the Kooks with no problems so far (keeping fingers crossed).
