I am used to my temp reading right around 220 degrees. Lately, it has risen to as high as 254 degrees. Could this be a problem, and what is the range of temps if anyone knows. Thanks for the help,
I had a problem with my 97 like that. It turned out to be a lot of small stuff clogging the airflow in the radiator. I was able to clean it out by removing the radiator and using a pressure nozzle on the garden hose to blow the stuff back out the front......jim

when I cleaned out my radiator and condensor, I got a half cup of sand, fuzzies and woolies, bugs and trash. More than likely this is your problem..

But these temps are high since the fans should kick in long before this (both fans are on by the time you get into the 230s). If the radiator is clean, then let the car idle and see if the fans kick in. If your still seeing temps above 230 then could be your thermostat is stuck/going bad.
At 254 degrees, you are just 2 degrees away from getting the "coolant over temp" warning on the DIC. So, yes, this is a problem. Highest I've ever seen - sitting in 30 minutes of summer gridlock - was 226.
