Default Cam Suggestions

I am considering a cam for my next modification and I am a bit green when it comes to cams as there are so many options.

I know that springs, etc will have to be upgraded, but what are some of the other drawbacks?

Heres what I am looking for:

Don't want too much lope. Want to maintain as much drivability as I can.

Only looking for 25-35rwhp. Trying to keep from killing my stock transmission. Looking to get into the very low 12s and possibly the high 11s.

When I turn my air conditioner on, I don't want the car to die.

Don't want a problem with warm starts or cold starts.

Don't want to change torque converters.

Stock heads.

My existing mods are in my signature.

I guess I am looking for something a step above the Z06 cam.

What do the cam gurus have for me?

I would go for the tried and true TR224, it makes great power and is very streetable especially on a 114 LSA. As you mentioned you will have to upgrade your valve springs. I would go with Patroit Gold Dual springs. One of the draw backs of swapping cams is you have to swap valve springs more frequently. The bigger the cam and the more aggressive the lobes the more frequently you have to change springs.

Go with a 114 LSA, that will give you a smoother idle.

If you race your car frequently especially if you are using DRs you have to expect to rebuild your tranny at some point. Especially since you have added more HP to your setup.

Have your car tuned by a competent tuner with LS1 Edit and you should not have any issues with hot or cold starts or problems running your A/C.

You can get away with using the PT2400, but you are leaving a good bit performance on the table. Especially your cars performance from a roll. I had the PT2400 and it is a good little converter but it leaves alot to be desired if you're looking for good all around performance. The Yank SS3600 or SS3800 would be SOOOOO much better.

I would not waste my time and money installing a small cam like the LS6 cam or any cam similar to it. With LS1Edit in the hands of a good tuner even big cams can be made to have good street manners.

I'm learning too! Maybe the Stealth cam would be something to look into although I don't know if that much HP is available with it. I was talked into the G1 and it is to lopey for me. The LSA or lobe separation (I think) seems to be the lope deciding factor. The G1's LS# is 113 the higher the number, the smoother it will idle. From what I understand.
