Default Recommended Oil Filter For C5

New member and new Corvette owner. I read somewhere on the Forum that the best oil filter for the C5 LS1 is the UPF 44. Could some offer an opinion. I know this is probably old information but it would help me. Thanks to all on this Forum. It is a tremendous source of information.

Your info is correct but finding this filter is a problem. Pep Boys, Auto Zone, ect do not carry it. I think you can get it through the GM parts counter. I just bought two K&N oil filters( HP 1007) online for $20. delivered. Saved some running around.

National Auto parts has this filte, they are an AC Delco distributer. You can also get the stock filter at a Chevy dealer.

Dealer by me has a bunch of different makes on the wall cut in a half section. GM is tops and worth anything extra. Some big names look like real JUNK.

Just a little FYI for those of you who don't realize this, but the Ultraguard Gold oil filter is made by Champion Labs, who also makes the K&N, STP, Mobil 1, Bosch Premium and Walmart Supertech. All of these filters, including the Supertech, are of top notch construction. But my vote goes to the K&N, as it flows the best, and I've seen extremely low engine wear in my oil analysis results using this filter, so I know it gets the job done.

Thanks to all for the help and information. I wonder how many serious Corvette owners do not know about this forum and the valuable source of information that it is.
Thanks,

Bob

Take a look at http://www.oilfilterstudy.com/

Lots of people use the UPF filter from Delco, as I did before I read the tests. I switched away from the Delco after seeing how poor the flow rate was.

Same here, I have some still in the box. Tried to get the Amsoil in a hurry, but ended up getting some Baldwins. I did notice that my cold startup tick has also gone away as well. This may in fact be the issue with those folks who are complaining about a startup noise.

Test results, such as the one above, show the AMSOIL SDF line of filters to be very good. The LS1/LS6 filter part number is SDF 32.

Here is some info on the AMSOIL SDF filters:
AMSOIL SDF Oil Filters
Oil Filter Study Results for SDF24

As an FYI, AMSOIL products will ship and arrive to your door normally within five days. I have bought from them numerous times this year and had all of my orders come on time (I order from the same online store as linked from this forum).

Buy AMSOIL at Wholesale
AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program allows you to buy any AMSOIL product at wholesale, which is about 15-20% less expensive than retail. Cost is $10 per six months and you can buy as much oil as you want during that six months. To sign up, all it takes is one phone call to 1-800-777-7094. Give them reference number 1206638.

Or you can use this link:
AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program
Again, please put 1206638 in the customer number block.
