I picked up one of these off of E-bay and want to install it but don't want the hassle of tearing my visor apart. Somebody here on the forum installed one of these on the drivers side footwell, about ashtray
level. Does anybody know where I can get power from (must work with ignition off). Is the cigarette lighter always live? That sure would be convenient...
easiest way is to tap into the power from the cigarette lighter type plug in the console. The wires can be easily acccessed from under the traction control plate. This just pries off. This is powered all the time and worked for me. Routing the wires under the carpet is easy from there. Have fun..
I gave $52 shipped for mine and had to paint the plastic bezel black to match my interior. Could have picked up a black one for $25 more but didn't see the justification. If you are resourceful, you can pick one up from a wrecking yard for around $25. Homelink website has list of vehicles you can find them in.
Thanks "lanceg1041" I suspected my voltage would be there!

Hey IMQuik- that's what I ended up with (only in black). I changed my E-brake boot out yesterday with a VE boot and while I was in the console got my Homelink installed. Used the "crimp-type" splice connectors on the two wires going to the cig lighter so there was no cutting or fuss. Had a little trouble getting this programmed but went to my wife's Yukon and grabbed her owners manual. The trick with a rolling code type opener is the additional step of hitting the learn button on the actual garage door opener itself. Worked like a charm and can now ditch my remote!
Thanks to all those that offered advice - this forum is great!
