Went to put the last head bolt in and it wouldn't thread.
I took a look at it and it has no pitch. Its basically just a shank with rings in it. Fortunately a dealer nearby had a few. Always something.

What!?! Is this one of the bolts you removed during the rebuild, or a new one? Must be a new one, yes?
Its a new bolt. The parts guy said he never saw anything like it either. You put your nail anywhere on the shank and spin it and it doesn't thread. I have no idea how it is even physically possible to tool a bolt like this.
Well, good bolts can be made by taking two grooved boards and rolling a bolt between them to make the thread. It's much better than cutting threads. Any bolt with cut threads shouldn't be used in an engine. The rolling process is like forging the threads. They must have had the thread plates tilted or something....or maybe they thought they were making the nail section of a rivet??
