Hey Guys, I'd really appreciate your help on this. Tried a search but no luck. I had picked up my car from the dealer after having work done to the car-Fuel sensors and something to do with the transmission- ($1,500+). I got home, parked car. Next day, battery dead. Purchased new battery/Installed. Got all the bells and whistles, but when I turn the ignition switch, nothing. Not even a click, yet all lights/radio are working! Any suggestions? Dealer wants me to tow to shop, but want to try to figure out myself. Checked codes and come up with several history codes (BO-RFA U1096H, U1064H, U1016/ 40+BCM B2528H, B2287H, B2592H/ 28-TCS C1255H). Checked codes, but not making much sense. BTW...mechanic here is very reputable, so I really don't think he had anything to do with this. Just trying to save some $ as I am building a house and all of a sudden major expenses are creaping up all over the place. Won't be able to check responses until later this evening, so I thank you in advance!
Remove and reinstall your battery cables! MAKE SURE that they are clean and properly torqued. An improperly installed battery cable will allow the low current items (lights and radio ect) to work but NOT the high current items ie STARTER!
Another possibility is the battery that you installed COULD be low or even bad! Jump the car with a known good battery and or charge the new battery.
Why did the other battery die? Same problem could have caused the new one to die!
Once you eliminate or prove the battery and cables to be good or bad, I have LOTS more troubleshooting recommendations for you to try!
If he is any kind of a dealer, he will come out to your place and tow the car in. That's what they did for me when the steering column locked. Since they worked on it last, it is definitly their responsibility to come get it. If you try to fix it yourself, they will blame the thing on you. Call your dealer and raise a stink. If that doesn't get results, call the area District Manager for GM. Good Luck!
Thanks for the replys. It is currently raining cats and dogs so as soon as I get a chance, I will check the cables as suggested. I have not tried jumping the vehicle, being that I was getting power to everything else. The other bad part to this is that I am leaving for Los Angeles tomorrow and will be gone for a week. Even if I had to tow the vehicle, I would not want to do it until I get back. I don't want them to fix the car and then leave it parked out in the dealer lot. HRE rims would go fast.
Seems like this happened to someone else a few weeks ago. The problem was the alarm or key chip. Maybe try doing a search for "Car won't start". HTH, Doug
DRR may have a point!!! If you have another key, give that a try. The resistor chip in the key needs to make contact with the contats inside the ignition switch treminals. If it doesnt the security system will cause the car not to start.
Hey guys...Just wanted to update everyone on my progress. After several weeks of traveling, I finally returned and had a duplicate key made. Went over to the car and it started right up! Inserted the key that would not start the car and it started with no problem. So the problem was the key. You guys are great!!!! Now if I can only figure out how to yank out this after market alarm installed by the first owner, I will be set.
