Default Lets get a cam list going

Lets get a list of cams that are available and what y ou need to make them perform. There seem to be an onslought of cam q's going around. I would personly love to see a list of cam's that perform great with out upgraded heads, and a list of cam that perfom better with heads. I would also love to see some Dyno #'w and track times to back them up.

When i was picking out a exhaust system there was a similar thread where everyone put in there gains, noise levels, in relation to there set up, it was very informative. Lets do the same with the cams in relation the the heads , and other mods!!

I posted a thread about 2 minutes after you, cause I've got questions I absolutely need answers to about what issues I might have if I have a great cam installed by who I'm sure is a great tuner. Nonetheless, what is good for one, may not be good for another, and then you have the differance in trans, rear gear, converters, etc. I hope this or mine posted right after you, turns out to be a great thread where we can get some real insight into these questions without having to do a search on threads that are outdated!

I too am interested in this information. However, a few years ago when I had my 90 I got a book for free by calling Comp Cams. It had a lot of technical information in it on cam design, definitions and what parameter effected what outcome. It was a very good source of information. You may want to give them a call to see if it is still available.

I'll start this off (or attempt to anyway);

Car: 2002 Z06

Cam: TRex (from Thunder Racing, Baton Rouge, LA)

Cam Spec: 242/248, 608/612, 110lsa

Other Performance Bolt-ons:

-Vararam VR-1B
-ASP UD Pulley
-Dual Row Timing Gear/Chain
-Comp 921 Springs
-TR Hardened Pushrods
-MSD Wires
-NGK TR55IX Plugs
-Kooks 1 7/8" LT Headers
-Kooks X-Pipe
-Kooks off road pipe (no cats)
-Borla 4-Tip Stingers

All parts installed by Owner (that be me)
LS1Edit Dyno Tune by MC Racing (Kansas City)

-451rwhp
-396rwtq

Track results at this years Z06Fest

12.4et @ 122 trap speed
-No traction in 1st, 2nd, and about half way through third
-No driver (that be me too)

Anticipate that drag radials, good driver on good track could make 10.8-11.2, at 125-130 trap.

-Idles OK at right around 1000rpms. Lots of cam shake and lots of noise
1000 -2000rpms, wants to buck a little at this range, but better on the higher end.

2000-3000rpms, get a little resonance in this range. Cruises better at the top end of range.

3000-4000rpms, starting to show some muscle here. Great range to cruise at and always ready to pounce.

4000-5000rpms, where you want to be to hit it from a roll. Accelerates like a rocket ship from here. At red line in a heartbeat.

5000-6800rpms, this where all the punch is. Makes most of it's power in this range. Dramatic results.

There is my $0.02 worth anyway.

Steve

I think for this to work it needs to be a thread that separated, sticky.
Then people are directed to the thread specifically to but in information predefined. Example Cam name, dur, lift, lobe, degree cut pistons,price,hydr/mech,etc, hp gain tq gain from baseline then max numbers. Otherwise some info will be missing or difficult to figure out.
Maybe one of the tuners could suggest the most important aspects to list and in a reallistic order.

OK, well i am cam shopping now. Thinking of going 224/224 581/581 on 114. I have been reading on here for months. This would be cam only on an 01 Z06. Looking for 400 rwhp. I am at 360 right now. Can I get close? My last dyno was in 95 degree heat with near that much humidity. In fact it was misting out. See sig for mods. Any input appreciated. SCOTT

You might also post the Z06 section, but I have two friends wtih Z06s who have done AFR H/C. One made 383 with a dyno tune and no LTs, the other made 439 with the same set up + LTs. Both were dyno tuned at the same shop.

My A4 makes 395 with AFR H/C and a 220/224 581/581 115, LTs and UD Pulley.

I think you might just be on the edge of 390-400 with a cam only, dyno tune. The UD Pulley is good for another 5 HP. Best,

224/224 .581/.581 114 LSA Comp XER grind
Ported/polished Stage II heads
02 ZO6 airbox lid
Stock exhaust
NO PCM TUNING

Car runs great. Drives nearly stock (a little more SOTP oomph) below 2,000 rpms. Above 2k and it really comes alive. Very definite power increase.

Don't know what it is producing exactly because there isn't a chassis dyno anywhere around with anyone that knows what they are doing, nor any tuners close buy (which is why I went with a "smaller" cam).

The package we have with all the other bolt-ons (headers, A/M intake, etc.) and tuning is good for 400 rwhp. We'll get there eventually; working on my own headers this winter.....

what do you guys think about this cam 228/588 114 lsa, with stock heads and the following mods: LT headers, random cats & x-pipe, hurricane airbox, hi flow air bridge and predator tune. I thinking about this cam and was wondering if anyone else may have a set-up simalar.
