Overheating is a common problem when the engine block is not properly filled with coolant. The T-stat does not allow flow when cold and the system is dependant on the coolant bleed lines to vent the block. First, check that your coolant vent lines are clear. These are the small metal lines that connect the heads in the front and go to the radiator. If these are closed or restricted the block will not bleed off air and properly fill with coolant. Next, fill the block thorugh the top radiator hose until it is full, then install the hose and complete the filling through the radiator cap on the coolant bottle. Let us know how this works out and good luck.

Run the car cold, keep the top off the coolant fill, after a few mins you should see it start to circulate. Then put the top back on before the pressure builds up to much.

Are both hoses hot when the car has been running?

Default over heating

this the problem that I having - The car started over heating, so I changed the thermostat and added coolant (antifreeze) and now the car still overheats, it bubbles over in the overflow tank.

If the water pump is bad, how will I know?

The water in the overflow is cold and both hoses are warm not hot... The temperture of the car go over 260 degrees. Please help-- I don't know where to go from here.

I don't want to go to the stealership, but if that is the last result-- I will have to...

I will try to fill the block with coolant and see if that will do the job.

I have my original waterpump which was working fine when I pulled it out of my 00 coupe at 49k miles. I over torqued the two t-stat housing screws and they broke off. So while doing the h/c swap rather than deal with that I just ordered a replacement. It's still sitting in an box. It's yours if you want to come pick it up, or you could bring the vette over and we could swap it in. Need to get those broken bolts out for the t-stat though, don't have a tool kit for that. Im not all that close, but not all that far either.

Gimme a call on the cell if I can help (703)969-4299.

Change that thermostat!! I have NEVER see a water pump NOT pump water! I have seen them leak, I have seen the bearings go bad and the pully wobble and I have seen the housings crack from improper instalation but NEVER have I seen one NOT pump. I seriously doubt it is the pump!!
Make sure you check the front of the radiator air intake area. I bet it is CLOGGED with trash! This time of year the leaves get sucked up in the shroud and clog it up!

My bet is you have a bad Thermostat!

Please let us know what you find wrong!
