Default Exhaust popping on Exceleration ? ?

Just notice that when I get on the car..and the RPMS go above 4500-5k Rpm that an erratic popping comes out of my exhaust during exceleration. It only does it when high in the RPM's, seems to be only on a lengthy run too.

Anyone ever had this symptom ?

Since it's on acceleration, I'd start with a logging session with ATAP to see if you're running rich. Excess fuel could ignite when it hits the cats.

Check your plug wires. Make sure they double click onto the coil packs.
I would also check the spark plug tips. I had one come off with the plug wire and about 5 more were loose. Mine popped at idle. Went away after all was tightened.

It sounds like you have a classic case of a bad plug or sparkplug wire. I had my headers installed and had the same problem. When you get the pop does the engine misfire. Check your dash and look for the check engine lite to flash. It it comec on and stays on and you pull up your codes you will see a (10 PCM 0300) code indicating engine misfire.

Here is what I found when I had to trouble shoot mine:

LOOKS NORMAL, RIGHT

CLOSER EXAMINATION REVIELS:

On the other side I found this:

Your OEM wires should read between 250-750 ohms and the jackets and boots should be plyable and in tact.

Let us know what you find,

I have MSD on there right now..but they have been pulled off quite a bit..so I guess I will go through and check them all, and see if I can find my old Taylors !

The MSD's may have a slightly different resistance reading as compaired to the OEM wires. I would read them all and compare readings. If you get one or two in the megohms, you may have found your problem. Dont forget about bad sparkplugs.

COULD BE! I went thru removing the wires three times befor I decided to check each plug! Found two bad wires and the plug to boot!

Keep an eye on that CHECK ENGINE light if you get any more misfires to see if it comes on.

Well, put new plugs in before I check the wires....still did it..put my old Taylor wires back on and took it for a test drive....ran GREAT.

We'll have to see if it remains this way ! ! !
