Default Removing air tubes...

What exactly do the air tubes do? I really want to remove them to clean up the engine bay and make spark plug swaps easier. Can you just pull them off and slap some block off plates on the headers?

Just helps the cats on startup, not to load them up with raw fuel alone. I yanked mine off a long time ago. You'll need to disable the air pump and related codes in the pcm, then slap some block off plates on and remove the 12lbs of crap from your vette

Sounds like I need to do that procedure also! (An AIR PUMPECTOMY) The damn thing is NOT getting along good with my new headers! I keep getting air system codes!

I eliminate the air pump and use the (large black) air system valves near the headers for crank case evacuation. I take the breather lines from the valve covers directly to these valves and eliminate the PCV valve to the manifold. This vents the valve covers to the exhaust, keeps the oil out of the intake manifold and provides positive crank case evacuation... And that's all good... I use this in conjunction with a Z06 valley cover vent system. Works great for me.
