Piston slap, what to do?
Before I got my C5 I was under the impression that the LS1 was an aluminum version of the Chevy SB. Boy was I wrong! From what I have read on these boards these engines and drive trains are nearly bullet proof! If taken care of they should last a long time.
Now, my car has what’s been called “Piston slap”. I got the extended warranty when I got the car. It is due to run out at 78,000. Should I start beating on my dealer about the problem now (48,000) or wait? Or should I even be concerned with it? I use my car as a DD, I don’t abuse it, and don’t have any intentions of doing any thing to it but drive it.
I would hate to get to 80,000 and grenade it like I did my last Vette engine. My 427/435HP Tri-power looked like a hand grenade went off in the oil pan!
Thanks!
How often do you change your oil and how long do you let your car / oil warm up before driving??
If I may suggest to let the engine and oil warm up to a tleast 80 degrees F before driving will help some.
Good luck
