Great forum. I'll be jumping into Corvette ownership in the next few months. Maybe a C5, maybe a C6 -- I'm not sure yet.
I have two questions for you. Part of the point of swapping out the exhaust system is get a meaner and louder sound. I'm backwards. I want the extraa 10th or so, but I want that sucker as quiet as possible. I'd enjoy a "meaner" tone, but NOT louder.
So my questions are:
1) Am I alone? Is it my fault? Am I a bad person?
2) If not, who can recommend a system that improves the sound witout actually making it louder?

Sound...
Of course it's your fault-you are a bad person-that's why you are alone!
I'm the same way, I'm still trying to figure out how to make my car sound like a Mustang...really good sound but not too loud!
I seems to me that if you have LT headers and an exhaust lobe greater than 228/230 degrees it's going to be loud.

If you're talking the same, or quieter than stock, then forget it. The stock system is insanely quiet. If you add longtube headers, high-flow cats and X pipe system, BUT keep the stock mufflers, you can probably pick up 15-20rwhp without much increase in noise. I don't think it'd be very noticable anyway.
You could also use the stock Z06 Ti mufflers. They are lighter and better flowing, and barely louder than the stock C5 system. I am currently running a heads/cam setup with longtubes, high flow cats, followed by dual 3" bullets and then into the stock Z06 setup. It is meaner sounding than stock but really not much louder in the car. I have approximately 420rwhp.
FYI, I also have dual 3" electric cutouts. I can switch between super quiet and super loud (and in between). Best overall setup for sure.
