Default LS2 Timing Chain on LS1

Has anyone converted timing chains to gain strength? I was just wondering what all is needed to complete this swap? Obviously the chain but how about cover, gasket etc..etc....

Thanks for the input,

Mike

Sidestep just installed an LS2 chain on his '01 LS1 when he did his h/c and didn't need anything else for the chain to fit. He sent me a pic and is looks much stouter than the LS1 chain.

Thanks....... I was thinking that was all I needed as both motors use the same cover gasket.

I did it. It is direct replacement and from the looks of it more than you will ever need.

Don't most tuners use/recommend double roller chains with H/C upgrades? They are readily available. Wouldn't this be a solution. I don't recall reading of any timing chain failures on stock LS1's. Am I missing something?

IMHO the doubles were the only good option before this LS2 came out 6 months ago. Now if you are really anxious you can do the LS2 chain and this which let you rev it till the pistons fly out..

Ahhh! I see! That, LS2 chain should take a bit of thrashing and do just fine! And spockets match up. Glad I don't make a living building double roller chains for LS1's.

Did you install the damper (if that's what it's called) shown in the picture when you did the chain?
Doesn't that cost almost as much as the chain?

Damper is about $90 for nylon or somthing similiar. Probably overkill in most cases.

I have heard early and late blocks were tapped. My 2000 was not. It is pretty easy, even in car. 8mm
