Default fill plug on manual 2002 is it same as temperrature Sensor

I'm in th e process , well actually just beginning, to change the fluid on my transmission. Done this several times on other cars but to my surprise the fill plug on this transmission seems to also be the plug for the temperature sensor. Yet I've read on this forum that it is a plug that takes a 3/8 drive. Yet its hard to believe I'm wrong because it says fill right next to the plug.

Can someone answer quicly. I've a'ready got the car up in the air.

Thanks

actually I guess its a temperature sensor and after pulling it out it does seem to serve to dual purpose of fill plug

Yes, only the Z06 has a temp sensor integrated (vs. just a fill plug like an MM6).

I changed the ATF in my '02 MN6 and the fill plug was just a fill plug, located on the drivers side of the tranny. I don't believe my manual tranny has a temperature sensor, and if it does, I certainly have never seen a guage or a place in the DIC where I can read it...

Right.. The originator of the thread has a Z06..

I've entertained the idea of buying an oil temp sending unit and the adapters to fit it into the trans fill hole, and add a switch that would toggle the trans and oil temp on the DIC. Not technically difficult, but not sure it's worth the hassle either..

For the Z06, you are correct. Hope the tranny fluid swap out went okay from that point forward.

Hmmm, this is interesting...I recently had my MN6 swapped out and replaced by an MN12 in my 2001 coupe (under warranty, as the gears were grinding, and I paid a small differential to cover the upgrade) - would the temperature sensor come as standard equipment on the MN12? (or is it a separate part order?).
Where does the other end of the sensor plug into? (and would that connection exist on a standard C5?)...also, would the computer require reprogramming to accept the sensor to function (as with the Z06?)
I'd love to get the sensor to work with my C5 coupe.
Cheers
Jason
