Default Question for Amsoil Users

I will be changing out the stock diff fluid in my '02 Z06 for Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 this weekend. Thier website states that friction modifier is not needed. Is this in fact true? Those using this fluid did you just put it in or did you add the GM modifier? Thanks.

First i used just the fluid... after about a week I got a bit of chatter upon startup. I added a few ounces of the GM friction modifier (takes five min to get under the car and add it to the fill hole) and everything is perfect. Every car is different... some cars don't need it and others need a bit like mine.

Mine worked fine right from the bottle, no additional modifier needed.

As to Amsoil Series 2000 75w90:

I tried to order some from Amsoil this afternoon. Could not find it on the website to order so I called the tech support people and was told it was replaced by Severe Gear 75w90 gear oil. Product SVG.

What's up with that??
Subdriver?
IMQUIK?
Is this breaking news? Inquiring minds want to know.

AMSOIL did come out with a major revision to their gear lube line, but I didn't read that they discontinued the Series 2000 75w90 which is what I used all year. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow and get back to you.

The new Long Life Synthetic 75w90 is certainly applicable, but I haven't used it.

As for the original posters question, I used the Series 2000 75w90 all season without the friction modifier and didn't have any chatter.

Thanks Brad. I actually plan to put it in my Harley tranny, along with 20w50 V in the crank and primary.
Appreciate your input on the change in product line.

Default AMSOIL Introduces New Line of Synthetic Gear Lubes

Okay, sorry I didn't catch this sooner, been way too busy the last month. :o

AMSOIL has introduced a complete revisision to its whole line of gear lubes.

SEVERE GEAR Synthetic 75w90 Gear Lube (Product Code SVG) replaces Series 2000 Synthetic 75w90 Gear Lube (TGR).
Long Life Synthetic 75w90 Gear Lube (FGR) replaces Synthetic 75w90 Gear Lube (AGR).

SEVERE GEAR Synthetic 75w90 Gear Lube (SVG) is the new recommended gear lube for both passenger car vehicles and racing applications, so this is what I will be using in my occasional races this year (going back onto sea duty).

Here is a press release from AMSOIL on the new line of SEVERE GEAR gear lubes (I added bold for areas applicable to Corvettes whether used for the street or track):

"AMSOIL INC. of Superior, WI has updated its gear lube formulations in order to optimize its gear lubes for modern applications. SEVERE GEAR™ Synthetic Extreme Pressure Gear Lubes, available in 75W-90 and 75W-140 viscosities, are ideally suited for vehicles that experience towing, hauling, steep hill driving, commercial use, racing, off-road use, rapid acceleration, stop and go driving and high ambient temperatures.

Modern vehicles are designed with more horsepower and torque than in years past, allowing them to haul and tow heavier loads. The result is higher gear loading and hotter running differentials. In addition, factors such as increased interior space and lower floor boards push axles higher into the vehicle's body, reducing air flow and increasing heat. The closer proximity of the axles to the exhaust system also effectively raises temps, while more aerodynamic body styles and air dams restrict air flow to the differentials.

SEVERE GEAR™ Synthetic EP Gear Lubes deliver unbeatable power-enhancing protection, thermal stability and fuel economy in both heavy-duty and severe service operations. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR™ has the film strength required to deliver all the protection high stress applications need in a fuel-saving viscosity grade at a competitive price. Recommended for use in all passenger vehicles, light trucks, SUVs, commercial trucks and race vehicles."

To order you can either call 1-800-956-5695 or use the AMSOIL online store link to the left or in my sig. In either case, please use reference number 1206638 to ensure sales are attributed to my dealership and hence benefit my race efforts and this site. Thanks.

All we had was problems with the rear ends with the Amsoil alone until friction modifer was added. Use the modifer
