Oil Analysis
Think I have about 5500 miles on my 5w-30 mobil 1 now with 2 trackdays at VIR back in July. My next trackday will not be till May, so I will run this oil at least 7500 to maybe 10k miles. I'm using a baldwin oil filter. I have a halltech trap intake too.
Will the baldwin filter be fine for 10k miles?
Most of my driving for now is 30 miles each way to work with 25 of that on the highway.
Thanks for all your great info.

This run had lots of full throttle driving, including quarter mile runs and 10 dyno runs too. I've got a K&N oil filter and air filter on it too.
From what I've observed in numerous oil analysis reports, Mobil 1 5w30 and 10w30 shows higher engine wear in the LS1 than German Castrol 0w30. The better choice if you want to stay with Mobil 1, is to use their 0w40. It will protect your bearings better at high oil temps, so that you don't see 12 ppm of lead in only 6000 miles. That is almost 12 times more bearing wear than I'm getting!

The Baldwin filter should be fine for 10k. The LS1 sized oil filters should make it to 12-14k before they'd need to be replaced, so most people won't even go anywhere near that long on the same oil anyhow.
Getting your oil analyzed is the perfect way to keep track of things, not only does it tell you the condition of the oil and how the engine is wearing, but it can also alert you to potential problems such as internal coolant leaks. This way you can fix things before they turn into bigger problems. I've seen a few instances where someone saw a tiny coolant leak that had just begun, and they were able to fix a leaky gasket before it ruined the engine. So the $20 spent on oil analysis can potentially save you hundreds of dollars! Besides, I simply find it fun to see how my oil is performing in my vehicles, and seeing how far I can safely push the oil change intervals.

I ran a Blackstone Lab oil analysis on my last 2003 ZO6 oil change.

They interpreted this as normal due to new engine wear-in, but recommended the next change at 4,500 (or about 30% on the DIC).
