I've read on this board before that the fluid of choice for the M6 is Synthetic ATF. I'm planning on draining and filling it this coming weekend with Mobil 1 ATF - how many quarts will I need?
Pick up some red automotive silicone seal as well, that is what the factory put on the plugs to aid in them sealing. I also used some Q-tips and alcohol to clean the threads.
If you're doing it yourself, get yourself a fluid pump while you're at it. You need some way of getting the fluid in if you're doing it yourself. I picked up a nice manual one by mail order but I've seen the same ones in the parts store fora around 10 bucks.
A tip: don't let the drain plug unscrew all the way when you go to drain it. Hold the plug with your fingers and slowly unscrew it the last couple of threads by hand. Keep the plug from allowing the fluid to just free-flow out. Otherwise you may have a mess on your hands as it pours out at a high rate. Have lots of old towels or rags handy and a good drain pan.
