I need some help. I have a 2000 coupe. GM issued a recall for the column lock problem so I had the car serviced about 8 weeks ago for that issue. I've never had a problem with the locking mechanism, until now. As I was backing the car out of the garage I heard the locking mechanism engage and the steering wheel lock. The DIC read "Service Column Lock". I pulled the car back in the gargae and turned off the ignition. I then restared the car and the column lock disengaged however the DIC message is still there. I followed the instructions in the manual where it says remove the key for 10 seconds to acknowledge the warning, then restarted the car but the message still appears. The locking mecahism now doesn not seem to engage at all when the car is turned off.
Is there a simple fix for this I can do myself? Can I drive it back to the dealer? Should I tow it back to the dealer? I'm afraid that it may engage while I'm driving it.
Pulling #25 BCM fuse at the passenger footwell and reinstalling it will reset the BCM for a column lock that is stuck in the "unlocked" position Then I suggest that you get the aftermarket bypass because if you have an M6,GM does not have a solution for you
