The stick where the **** attached to came off. I was able to stick it back in and it seems to work normally. I have not removed the boot to see exactly what happened!
This happened to my 98 when i test drove it. The rubber insert which is used reduce vibration had com apart on the inside. The dealer replaced the shifter & all was fine. SCOTT
It is a handy feature when you have a tough time removing the T pin from the shifter (in the ****). Actually, I never did get the T pin out and short leather boot ready to go on with my Hurst, so the ****, top shifter shaft and stock boot are still one big assembly.
I guess the guy in Bowling Green who hammered the T pin in on my car was pi$$ed about something since my shifter shaft came off before the T pin came loose...

same thing happened to me.. .I had to use a hacksaw and cut the stock **** off before I could install my Hurst shifter and short boot.

I had the same problem on my '01. So at stop lights when people would look at me, I'd pull the stick apart and act like the car broke, just to play with people
