I am glad they come off
It is a handy feature when you have a tough time removing the T pin from the shifter (in the ****). Actually, I never did get the T pin out and short leather boot ready to go on with my Hurst, so the ****, top shifter shaft and stock boot are still one big assembly.
I guess the guy in Bowling Green who hammered the T pin in on my car was pi$$ed about something since my shifter shaft came off before the T pin came loose...

.I had to use a hacksaw and cut the stock **** off before I could install my Hurst shifter and short boot.
