Default 383 Stroker kit? Should i do it?

Here is the delima i am in.. I have an 04 convert.. I am putting in new heads, cam, headers and exhaust. The engine is stripped in the car and i am ready to put it back togeater. It is not that more work to pull it and put in a stroker kit!!! Sould i do it? Worth it? I need some advise!! Thanks....

If you don't do it you might wish you did, we always seem to end up wanting more hps dn the road. I'd say go for the stroker and be done with it.

I was pondering the same thing. Until Michael (vendor I can't name/non sponsor) told me I'll be gaining 20-30RWHP over stock 346CID. First you spend the additional $ for the forged 4" stroke crank. Then you have to notched the block for clearance. For all the $ and the machine work, it was not worth the 20-30RWHP IMHO. It would be better spent on FAST 90mm intake and TB. Not trying to scare you but for me.....Been there done that!

I would stay with your 346. Why risk possibly introducing a ton of problems for a gain of 20-30 hp ?

Stroker could be nice since you already have it open, but 427 is probably what you really want.

37 more cubic inches with up graded heads, cam and headers should get you from 45 to 60 or more horsepower depending on how radical the heads and cam are.Ive done just about every small block combo there is, and 20 horsepower out of 37 more cubic inches tells me somebody needs to be in another line of work.If you got the money go for it. 427s are nice but exponentially more expensive.

Someones talking 30 to 40 more horses with the added cubes. This may be true or may not, but the real truth is the big increase in torque. Thats what cubic inches do for you. You may not see a great deal of HP, but you will see great gains in Torque and that's what gets you down the road. You will not be disappointed, plus you can get away with more cam.
Go for it!!!

I can tell you that when I had the opportunity as you have now I pulled the trigger on a Lunati stroker kit and I LOVE the results!!

The only change I would have made at the time was to go with a more agressive cam and upgraded valvetrain ( Comp 921 springs and shaft mounted rocker arms). Originally,I went with a Compcam XR series 232/236-575/578-112 , it was nice but not truly what I was looking for .
I eventually went with a Compcam XER series 240/244-608/612-114 Now that's REAL power you can feel!!

Having a forged bottom end let's me sleep at night. Once you get these LS1 engines in the 360-385 RWHP the bottom ends are just not reliable..IMHO. I would go for it but be sure you only do the job once
