My "04" C5 went into the shop on Saturday.
I'm going with the ATI ProCharger along with a few other mods.
They called today asking if it would be ok to remove my smog pump.
I asked what the down side was and they said there wasn't any.
This is a top shop in my area so I'm going to trust their direction.
Let me know if you guys have any thoughts about this.

Mmmm hope you don't have to pass smog test. And yes she will kick off codes, I ***-u-me they know that and can disable the codes. Why do they want to remove it??
The AIR PUMP (electric) runs at start up and allows the cats to warm up and light off faster. Most states do an underhood inspection and look for the AIR system.

It does no harm to leave it in, so I'd say no to the deletion. But if they do remove it they can edit it out in the programming and no codes will be thrown. It depends on you and the State you live in to how stringent they inspect your cars. Here in the Peoples republic of Illinois they plug into the computer and check for recent codes and no inspection.
good luck finding it on a visual inspection! Its stashed under the front fascia and is impossible to get at or even see w/o the car in the air. You can fail 2 readiness tests in illinios and still pass the test. I have my smog pump gone and disasbled the codes w/ no problems. It actually cleans up the engine bay quite a bit to remove those air tubes to the headers.
When I asked about removing it, and why, they told me it was not needed and was just more weight.
If I do decide to remove it and it becomes an issue I'll have them put it back on.
Thanks

Reason: Additions
The addition weight of the pro charger may be their concern. There have been some suspension issues with the addtion of extra weight on the front suspension.

ET, the pump does not weigh that much. In fact you can consider it to balance out the right side addition of weight with the blower. Seriously, I believe the installer just does not want to spend the time messing with it. Can you blame him? Stink'n EPA. Next, they will make us stop breathing to save the earth from CO2.
You gotta love "Earth day, " that's when all the Leftys get together and trash the city parks with a ton of litter.
If you removed the pump and left the plumbing you might get past visual.
Here in Cali, you would need the plumbing and if the codes returned a zero rather than a valid code, you would fail they just changed here and actually run you on a low speed dyno, so without AIR, it is likely you will fail the exhaust sample also.
There is not a lot of weight a lb. or two to be saved by removing it. I have had mine out replacing the skid frame. I think they just don't want to deal with the plumbing.

Maybe with all the plumbing, but not just the pump. It is plastic and not a real big piece! I have had mine out and in my hand and I guarantee it ain't no 15 lbs.
I've had the pump in out in my hand. I'd say it weighs about 2lbs. It is a big pita to mess with it when doing a procharger installation. I just left mine out. As long as you wont have problems passing emissions, I say take it out and turn the codes off. If its not doing anything, why leave it in?
