yes, on the two forums I've posted to, they have been split 50./50 on contacting the rail road and contacting the city.
(think the quote was "even with a bad lawyer, you should get a settlement")
The entire time I was taking these pictures, locals/regulars were leaving the highway and crossing these tracks on the shoulder of the road while travelers and tourists were hitting the tracks and either braking hard or swerving from the jolt.
I hit it (yes, with low profile tires) at night.
Granted, there is a single yellow sign on the road that reads BUMP, but the speedlimit is still 45-55 at this point before reaching 65mph just beyond the city limits.
Wheel Experts and Veterans: Is this rear wheel repairable or what?
Your wheels can be repaired, they will require inner and outter rims for each center. Ultra low profile tires will allow damage like this, they look nice but this is the downside. I think you would have a hard time proving it happened at the RR tracks. Now if you blew out each tire and called the PD to make a report, it would not be a dispute as to where it happened.
Best of luck to you on getting things fixed my HRE brother.

Right On and I appreciate the info - Yes, I will be making some changes once I get these repaired. Just want to be as informed as possible before calling up a shop and accepting the first figure they toss out.
My "ride along" / Co-pilot on that drive was my Uncle who is not only a well known farmer of the area but also a member of the Mississippi Levee Board, recent MS Rice Coucil President, and currently he serves on the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, the Delta Council, the MS Rice Council, and the US Rice Producers Association.
I certainly hope they will take his word for it if not mine. I was born and raised in this town and resided there until 1996.
With the way cars were avoiding this crossing I would not have any problem getting the press involved as well as many of the local residents.
I would find out who is respsonsible maintaining the crossing, you can't be the only one who has experianced wheel damage or alignment problems from hitting it.
Find out which RR owns the tracks and begin inquiring. Your pics will be helpful, along with any eyewitness statements: you were there at the time you said you were there, etc. Don't give up. Keep pressing them.
I wondered if your tires could have been low in pressure? Was it significantly colder there than the locale where you usually reside? That will certainly lower the effective pressure of the tires.

no- the temps were pretty close to what I had on the coast the day before. (only 4 hours away and only diff. was daytime to nighttime)
And I had the oil changed three days earlier so the tire pressure was correct.
(at least the pressure is normal now and I have not added any air)
Yes, have written my Uncle to find out who we should speak to about this.
Just insane that I would get that much damage to such an expensive wheel.
(I take some of the blame. While I have only owned this car a month, I am aware that low profile tires take relay more damage to the wheel)
