Is it pretty cut and dry to use? If so, how often are you retuning?

If you are starting from scratch, buy H.P. Tuners instead.

I disagree.

Go with EFILive V7 (EFILive's Scanner) and FlashScan (EFILive's Tuner/Editor ).

EFILive is hands down the finest scanner - with the best customer service I've ever experienced.

Flashscan and their scanner are made for each other- which makes tuning easier.

I thought the majority of tuners are using LS1Edit. Is that not true? I would like to know too. Thanks.

I'm not starting from scratch. . I'm heads and cam, and have had the car tuned. I figured it would be best to retune every now and then, though. ?

hp tuners is taking over the market. If you want to talk customer support, hang out at hptuners.com forum for a few days, you'll see waht i mean.

The hp tuners scanner isnt the best yet but its very usable and helpful.. As of now you cannot add gauges tot he display but that is in the works. Every month HPT gets better then ls1!! I have played w/ both and HPT is 100x better and easier to use IMO. Dont waste your money on anything but HPT IMO..

What do these systems cost for personal use? Are they affordable or do the rights cost a small fortune?

500 for HPT. Not sure on ls1 edit but its similar. problem w/ ls1 edit is resale. its tied to one car and one vin. W/ hpt its for all c5s that model year and not tied to any vin. So you can tune every year c5 that you buy for. When you resell ls1 edit u need to buy anew liscense which kills resale of it.

Both LS1-Edit and HPTuners are both in the $400-500 range. Personally, I plan on using HPTuners when the time comes as I feel the LS1-Edit interface is hideous from a GUI perspective as well I'm offended by the poor design of their web site. HPTuners is actively updated - unlike LS1-Edit. The only way I see LS1-Edit sticking around is if they drop the price in half.

EFI LIVE is running a special upgrade price for current owners of EFI LIVE V5 Pro and above to upgrade to Flash Scan (Tuning program) at a very cheap price. Great option for guys that are current EFI Live/Autotap users. FYI......

Pigface1, I'd only worry about retuning if you've changed something or are otherwise dissatisified with the tune.

There are some advantages in getting to market early. Tuners will be much more likely to look hard at whether or not it's worth a switch than will the casual user. They have a lot more invested, not only in the tool itself but also in all the experience with it and auxilliary tooling around it. Tuners buying in now may well make different choices than they would have three or four years ago.

They may well wish that. The EFILive product hasn't been around long enough to form the fad following HPT has but it will. Watching HPT react to EFILive has been interesting. LS1-Edit doesn't even appear to be a contender anymore, I guess you get slow when you get fat.

I agree w/ Bink. I'm firmly in the EFILive FlashScan camp. It's a very well thought out and complete package. Even better, as we've watched the product line grow the integration and planning has been quite evident.

what i mean is HPT is a huge up and comer. They are getting alot of press coverage in many magazines. THere have been a few good writeups in GMHT and PHR etc. Many are switching over from ls1 edit to HPT due to the trade in allowance HPT is giving for LS1 edit and EFI live

Agreed, much better product than LS1-Edit. That's not the most serious competitor though. It's nice to have much better options these days.

Mark - I have LS1 Edit and I had the Pro Version of EFILive V6 (and of course the requisite Autocrap).
I've now upgraded to EFILive V7 and FlashScan. A big factor to consider is the price of Upgrades.

EFILives upgrades cost - ZERO! They are FREE.

They were updating EFILive 5 and 6 so frequently I had trouble keeping up with the new info in each build - seriously .

My $.03.

I still use it because I am familar with it and my calibrations are just right. Trying to convert to another product does not make sense now.

I know folks who have all three. They feel that HPT is the best right now.

I have EFI live, and have considered getting Flashscan, but if you look at what just came out on HPT (1.6), and the new stuff planned for 2.0, it boggles the mind.

If you have a FI setup, HPT is the only way to go with their 3 bar option.

EFI Live has a fine product, but from what I have seen HPT has more features, and continues to improve.

If you want Customer service, they have it in spades. There were a few features a tuner I know wanted to see. He asked the guys at HPT about it, and they had him the feature in literally 3 hrs to test.

He had been asking Ken Kelly for that same feature for 18 months...

In fact the new versions will have so many features, some folks will find it overwhelming comapared to 1.5

But, I respect Joel's (Bink) opinion. I have watched as he has been through the learning curve with quite a few products. He's a good guy, and I would highly value his opion on any topic related to tuning...

OK. Let me ask you guys this related question. I don't know didly squat about tuning. I'm considering having my shop dynotune my car using LS1 Edit to squeeze the power out of her. I'm assuming that you guys are talking about getting the actual tuning hardware/software and doing the tune yourself, right? Of course, with this shop, I'm not going to be charged for any further tunes or adjustments...only dynotime if needed. The price he is charging is $400 for this. He calls it a lifetime tune. What do you guys advice?

All I can say is ............ you're a real trooper Sean. Andy did an LS1 on my Dyno Tune, but I'll be scanned in another week and we'll see where it goes. Hope to see you in Pasadena next January. Best,

I just bought a copy of LS1 Edit so that I could work with my tuner long distance whenever I need...if ever I need. Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake. May sound ignorant but never knew the other two were so popular. Do you have websites? Of course they are not going to be compatible with LS1 Edit so still wouldn't accomplish my original intent. But still would like to vist the web sites.
