I was driving down the highway and the computer said my "shocks were inoperative" and "reduced engine power". All of my gauges except for the speedometer and battery went dead. The radio turned off, the check gauges light came on, the ABS light came on. When I got home, I turned the car off. I turned it back on after a minute and everything went back to normal. However, the car operated normally the entire time. Has anyone else experienced this problem???
Once I had a problem with a window sensor. All of the gauges were at 0 with the engine running. After they fixed the sensor, the dash worked fine. This cars systems are intertwined (spelling) in such a way that if something breaks, everything else that shouldnt be affected (IMO) is.
Are you bringing up any codes? because my gut feeling is that you have a sensor somewhere that is going out or a ground problem that is just starting to surface.
I went to the cleaners earlier and observed that my passenger side door functions are not working? I think I may have a relay for that particular area goimg out or already out. Anyone know of a way I can check the computer out or relays with out going to the dealer. If I have to I will go but I hate getting bent over at the GM desk.
If those functions are not working properly, I would strongly recommend starting in that area first. Remove the door panel and check your connections. Especialy in the rubber accordian tube that connects the door to the door frame. There are connections in there that have been known to be loose. Check each wire!
I have other recommedations but start in that area first.
I had the same problem about six months ago. Took it to the stealer for service work. They replaced (?) the body control module to the tune of $580 part and labor. I have driven the car about 500 miles since then with no problems . . . so far.
My 98 coupe went bazerk 3-4 times when it was new. The service people were clueless!! After the 4 time I traced it down to a WET BCM module.
The module was getting wet from two places. The first was the black rubber hose on the HVAC fan blower motor that get cool air from the AC/Heater box will condensate and drip on to the BCM if you have the AC or Defrost on. Second the drain for the AC/Heater box can plug up and flood the passengers foot well. The BCM gets damp and it gpes haywire! Check the carpet and carpet underlayment behind the passengers foot well toe board. See if the area around the BCN is wet/damp. If it is, that is your problem. I have a cure for that too!!!
The SILVER BOX to the left of the fuse box is the BCM!
I checked the compartment on the passenger side floorboard it doesn't seem to be wet at all... The BCM or fusebox... I checked all the connections and everything seems to be secure.
Thanks Bill you 've been a great help! I will start my cleaning probably tommorrow since I have a couple of days off I will def. let you know the results...
